Re: Are OpusX smokes worth the price?

Opus X cigars have a very distinctive flavor profile; there's nothing else quite like them. If you enjoy that flavor, there's nowhere else to go. They're are also very well made. If the cigar has been properly cared for, they will never start unraveling or burning funny. And, yes, the band is something to behold.

An Opus X is a great smoke at MSRP, one of my favorite treats along with the Ashton VSG or AVO 80th Anniversary, but I would not pay 200%+ MSRP and up for any cigar on principle.

Re: Are OpusX smokes worth the price?

I haven't been that impressed by the opus X line. The few i've had has been very salty and to me hasn't been as impressive as some of my botl's have indicated.

maybe more testing is in order but at the going prices it's an endevour i engage in with slight hesitation...

I pay 17 dollors per opus, and to me its worth, but in moderation...

Are they worth the price ??? If you are buying them at MSRP yes they are. They are a well made and good tasting cigar. But to pay some of the prices I see on the internet, that makes them not worth it in that case.

When it comes to what Richard says

I think this is well stated. Cigars, like food, wine, beer, etc. are very subjective. A beer I might like, you might hate, doesn't mean it's good or bad, it just means we have different tastes.

That said, make sure you don't pay much over MSRP for your Opus... don't feed the gougers.

It is also true that like any other high quality cigar, age will do wonderful things to Opus. Decade old Opus are a seriously wonderful smoke.

Re: Are OpusX smokes worth the price?

Yes.
$15 a stick may be a lot, but this stick is worth every penny (to me).
I have never seen em at MSRP, and my local only lets you buy 2 when they have them in. I laugh at the auction prices online, but some people never get to see these locally.
To each, his own.

Agree, take more time then 45 minutes and really enjoy the smokes. If you can find them near MSRP I would definetly grab some. If you have to try one now ok, but I would let them rest a year.

Re: Are OpusX smokes worth the price?

I personally like them very much.

My only advice would be, if you are a new smoker then it might not be worth the money. I tried one when I first started with cigars and just hated it. Later in my cigar development, someone gifted one to me so I decided to try again. I was much more experienced and now I really like them.

Conclusion: IMHO it's not a newbie cigar.

I as well was not that impressed with the Fuente Fuente Opus X. Not to say that it was a bad smoke (and much cheaper @ mahogany in Philly at 8.50 a stick), but it did not live up to the hype I heard through friends and forums. Maybe I need to try an aged stick....

Re: Are OpusX smokes worth the price?

I at first was a non-believer of the Opus X. My first one was unimpressive and I actually felt ripped off. But as the leftovers aged and 16 months late I must say, they have made me a true believer and I pay homage to the Opus X whenever they are available (Fathers Day, 4th of July & Christmas).

Re: Are OpusX smokes worth the price?

What yer gonna get from the question are varying opinions as to why or why not it is or isn't worth the price.
FWIW, if you want to try one or two out of curiosity then why not? But, if you can deal with your curiosity then screw it; wait til you can find some at a great price. A tip though, you are not gonna find any on CBID at a decent price; there are types (as previously discussed in another thread) there who will bid anything to win certain types of smokes ie: annis, VSGs, OPusX's etc.
Some of the bidding I have seen on those types go way beyond reason.
