Re: Are OpusX smokes worth the price?

I actually smoked one for the first time last night, it was an opus X lancero (most likely from a sampler since it came in a glass tube). I now know what people are talking about when they say opusX are spicy and full of pepper. This cigar was full of flavor that hit my tongue unlike any cigar I have experienced before. In the beginning I was worried it was going to have that terrible NC cigar aftertaste, but to my delight it never occurred. The cigar mellowed out a little while smoking and turned out to be rather enjoyable. I have found that most premium fuentes have flawless construction, and this one didn't disappoint. Even burn and plenty of smoke. Very pleasant buzz as well. I would say it is in the top 5 NC cigars I have smoked, to me I would rather have a tatuaje noella or an anejo 49. This cigars ranks slightly behind a good padron anniversary but better than an Ashton VSG (IMO).

With all that said, I have seen these cigars sell for 30 bucks, hard to say it is worth that price. I would rather have four tatuajes for the money.

Another cs member suggested I try one of the larger ring gauge opusX as these cigars often taste different depending on the size. Currently I have 5 or so sitting in my humidor (all different sizes). I think I will wait a little while before I smoke them. I have read that with age, these cigars can be some of the best cigars ever made.

I have found a couple of opusX at close to MSRP and bought a couple in vegas at casa fuente (well over MSRP). My local B&M recently got a couple of boxes and they are selling them at approximately double MSRP (so a 12.50 msrp is selling for around 20 bucks). I picked up one since I didn't have one of that size, I didn't really want to pay 20 bucks for it, but considering they were selling anejo 55s for 38 bucks, the opusX didn't look so bad. Plus, it was cheaper than casa fuente in vegas (not saying much).

Since I mostly smoke premium NC cigars (cheaper ones have a bad aftertaste that I really do not like) the price wasn't that bad, so instead of two smaller padron anniversaries I have one larger opusX. I wouldn't make this choice every time, but once in a while it is ok if I get to try something else.

Just my

i dont remember what size my opus was, but it was from the 3 cigar opusX package with the DVD. the b&m broke a package down for me so i could buy it. i also paid 20 bucks for it.

that same day i did pick up an anejo reserva no. 55 that he let me have for $12. SO HOLY CRAP on the 38 bucks. i have yet to smoke the 55 and probably wont for till atleast next year since i ruined my opus by smoking it too early.
