Thanks Heartfelt industries (Viper139)...

After posting some humidity problems I was having, viper139 PM'ed me with a very generous offer of some free beads. Since I'm (unemployed) in Grad school I really have to watch my funds because I live 100% off of loans... Ya I know it sucks....But anyhow Viper139 must have felt my pain because yesterday evening I received a 4oz bag of 65% beads. So I converted my hockey puck style humidification device into a bead holder (by pouring some beads in and making 60% of them clear) this morning the thing was dead on 65. Very comforting. I would like to thank Viper 137 and Heartfelt industries. Here is the pic...I was really excited.
Before

After

The humidity gods are pleased..SEE....Thanks Man

Do business with confidence! I was unhappy with my batch of beads (I thought I had 70%-ers instead of 65%-ers) and after exchanging a couple of emails, he sent me out a new batch of 65%-ers before I'd even returned the old batch. Turned out it was my error.

Now I learn he's introduced a line of 60% beads. I'll be in touch when I get back from vacation, David!

Hey CG,
Could you please expand on how it was your error?
My 65% beads won't go below 68.5%, and they're 100% white. They seem to lack the ability to absorb RH...
Any help is appreciated.

My opinion..Hygrometers are plus or minus a few points no matter what kind you have. I bet your off by +3.5 thats normal, nothing to worry about man a lot of people keep their cigars at 70rh all the time.

I believe my hygrometer was not correctly calibrated.

I've got the beads (a 1/2lb I think) in a cooler now with a couple of boxes, some singles in plastic sleeves, and a RS wireless thermo/hygrometer sensor. I open the cooler just about every day for one reason of another, and the hygro reading will drop, as low as 48% if I leave it open long enough. I'll reload the cooler, close the lid, and within ten to fifteen minutes the reading is back up to 64%. Let's just say I have more confidence in those beads than I have in the accuracy of any one of my motley collection of budget hygrometers.

Even more than the excellence of his product, the point I wanted to make was that Viper will work with you until you're satisfied, and that's a very welcome and unfortunately increasingly rare quality. If you're having problems with the beads, you should definitely get in touch with the man himself.

I hope this was helpful.

Re: Thanks Heartfelt industries (Viper139)...

viper is a hell of a guy. He sent my beads before he got my money order. I can't wait to do business with him again.

JPH,
I know what you mean about living off loans. I start grad school in the fall myself.

I have also have more confidence in the beads keeping the humidity at 65% than what my meter is telling me. My hygrometer usually reads a few % low, 62-63%. But like what others have said, I'm not really concerned, +/-3% is good for me.

Enjoy the peace of mind that your smokes are sitting nicely at 65% RH!
