Thanks for responding opusxox, as a bystander, it isn't important enough to me to start a private converstation.

This was a simple, innocent question but placing it in a title that suggests otherwise seems disgenuine and possible bait.

Is it really anyone's belief that soliciting innocent opinions here requires mentioning the specifics of ugly incidents elsewhere?

I never really knew that the term bothered people so much. When i first jumped on board 'ISOM' was used here alot more than it is now, so I started out using it since others were....I thought thats what everyone did(damn peer pressure). So when I use it, I mean no disrespect, I just figure it is an exceptable phrase.

I have just been re-edjumakated

Agreed, a less detailed account of the incident (such as not including specifics such as user name, age, and a full quote) would've been sufficient, assuming a backstory was nessesary at all to explain the issue. And, of course, this lack of judgement was the sorce of much off-topic mudslinging and sophomoric namecalling. Much of the controversy surrounding this thread (including the retorts from defenders and character witnesses of the man subject to said namecalling) could've been avoided with the use of a little anonymity and common sense.
However, I give Catalyst the benefit of the doubt. I don't think it was malicious. Just poorly thought-out.

Very good point and well taken. There was no need to mention anything other than the question he wanted answered. He probably was hurt and soliciting support. Come back and visit on happier occasions.

What's amazing is that thousands of written words on a simple question - did I do something wrong by using the term ISOM?

The answer is no.

End of discussion.

Re: A 43 year old man owned me. (verbally...)

OK, Catalyst apologized both on MySpace and here, Lance apologized for the over the line pedophile crack and I'm sure Chuck apologized over on MySpace for blasting Catayst there.

I think it's clear that those who know Chuck personally find him a knowledgeable, generous, friendly, stand-up guy. That didn't come across in his dressing down of a newb on MySpace. In my few dealings with him, he has always been friendly and helpful. Of course I never called a Cuban cigar an ISOM.

Seems to me we have reached the next stage of this thread.

Re: A 43 year old man owned me. (verbally...)

Personally, I find the term ISOM extremely annoying (but I'm a jerk and also won't respond to text messages consisting of "how r u").

For opinions on the subject, one could do a search for the topic (it's been discussed) or, even better, just READ. Read posts by people who know what they're talking about (not posts by people who just post to read their own words) and see how they refer to Cuban cigars. These are the people you might want to emulate--the people who know more than you do.

Chuck is a good guy and very knowledgeable--as anyone who reads or posts on other boards would know. The whole group mentality, piling on someone is juvenile, in my opinion. I wouldn't have approached the situation the way he did; I would have just cringed at the use of the term and moved on. However, his action didn't make him into a bad person--he was just expressing his feeling and his frustration. This thread was, to me, in bad taste and more or less an attempt to bait people.

Sean, honestly, those two people have been members here longer than you, or myself. I was referring to the guy who started this thread, and was by no means singling out Dave and Greg, you post a lot also

Back on subject: I had no idea that ISOM was disrespectful in any way.

I only thought it was one of many net-speak terms of endearment for a puro that most of us adore and hold its craftsmen in the highest regard. I, very rarely, think about politics when I think of Cuban cigars. Island South of Miami is geographically correct and doesn't really imply any thing negative about its people.

I would have never thought about searching for the word ISOM due to way it's used positively in many posts.

jokes aside, it doesn't hurt to use the search feature every now and then. Sometimes we forget, I've done it a few times myself. But I don't see how it's positive use has anything to do with using the search feature.

also, this just isn't about the term ISOM, it is however about people intentionally stirring the pot. Which I believe was done here, and I see no evidence to the contrary, hell the title of this thread says it all.

If this was really just about the term ISOM, why not make that the title.

"Is using ISOM bad?"

"Who thinks ISOM is a derogatory term?"

I guess including someones age and they fact that you got "owned" by this person is necessary to asking if ISOM is offensive, personally I don't see a connection.
