I personally wouldn't pay the money for a Xikar unless it was heavily discounted. I have a generic double bladed guillotine that works as good if not better than other high-end cutters I've tried. It looks very similar to this:

Now having said that, I do think the Xikar is a quality product and if you have the money and want something that looks good and feels more substantial, go for it.

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

I think they work pretty well. At first it was bit akward for me but after a few cuts have really got the hang of it. I was getting decent cuts from the begining but did notice a "step" in the cut. Since then, the step has reduced a lot with only a bit showing. If you can get one at good price (like $20 as someone pointed out ) I say go for it.

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

IMHO, having used both various Xikar cutters and a new Palio, my vote goes to the Palio. Always seems with the Xikars that the blades would deflect and not give as clean a cut as the Palio would. The blades on both were very sharp, it's just that in my opinion, the design of the Palio is far superior. Again, JMHO.

I really like my Xikar. I have the havana cutter as well but i think i still like the xikar better. i have about 10 different cutters at home, 2 costing more than $30. Of those two the xikar is by far the best one.

I haven't tried a palio.

Thumbs up Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

The Xikar line of cigar cutters are very good. The most popular that sells for $20 and up, up & up, are definetly over priced IMO. However, the Xikar "MeanSardine" that retails for $9.95 and can be had for about $6.00 on eBay and elsewhere, is a super cigar cutter! It's ultra sharpe and will properly cut up to a 56 ring gauge cigar with ease. I recently won an ebay auction for "4" MeanSardine Cutters and a free triple flame torch lighters for $17.00, that's $4.25 each, for a truly great cigar cutter.

Palio - Warranty Policy

We at Palio cigar cutter don't take our slogan "A cut above" lightly, we live by it and think our warranty should epitomize it, so it's as simple as it gets! If you feel that the Palio cigar cutter you purchased has lost it's ability to deliver a quality cut, assuming it has only been used for it's intended purpose (cigar preparation), at anytime during it's life of use. Simply return it to ANY Palio cigar cutter vendor for a replacement. No questions asked! On vacation in another country or state? If there's a Palio vendor near where you're staying, take it there and get a new one. If ANY vendor does not recognize this warranty, please e-mail us info@paliocutters.com and let us know.

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

I have an all-metal Xikar cutter, and I love it. It's made well, is still in terrific condition one year after I got it, and it's still razor sharp. It cost me $69 but it was worth it. It's also big enough to cut really big ring gauge cigars, which was always my complaint about other cutters. I smoke 56+ ring gauge fairly often so I need one that can cut the big guys.

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

I have a Xikar, Palio and Havana cutters. I use the Palio and Havana cutters, but rarely if ever the Xikar.

I think the Xikar is a quality cutter, but I just don't like the feel of it.

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

I have a Xicar X1 and X2. I really like the heavier X1 cutter. Better feel and a sharper cut.

I purchased the X1 from CBid and it came in a box with registration papers. The X2 came from Ebay () and the seller sent it in a Ziploc with the registration already completed and the "leather" carry case included. The action on the X2 was just not as smooth. When I unlock it, it seems to stick a bit. I've been thinking about a squirt of WD40 in the hinge to loosen things up.

So far my X! is silky smooth and razor sharp.

Lesson learned: If you like em, you like em and if you don't you don't

Now I only use a punch cutter, but before I switched I loved my Xicar. If you can get one for 20 bucks or so, I'd say it's a bargain.

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

This cigar thing (sorry ... martini) is so cool. Everybody seems to like what they like. It would be such a boring world if we all like the same thing.

Anyway, I've been using a Xikar that my wife gave me for Father's Day 2005. Love the feel and have never noticed a "stepped cut." Cuts smooth and easy with nary a pinch. Plus there is that sentimental "gift" thing ... like those Monte Whites the wife gave me for Christmas sitting there in my humi surrounded by Habanos.

On the other hand, I've heard about the merits of the Palio and I'm waiting for mine from the recent group buy. Never really liked the feel of that style but we'll see if the Palio makes a believer out of me.

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

I have the xikar 1 and have never really liked the way it cuts. I expected much better from it. Before I got that I used a scissor cutter which worked well but I was looking for something a little more portable. I have a couple of the CS cutters and use them all the time. I will probably give a palio a try at some point, but right now it's my CS cutter I grab.
