Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

i know the cut of the cigar can make or break the smoke. However, just how much different is a cut with a Xikar that a put from a palios. I mean your going from elite to elite in this sense, i feel the quality is less important, almost indifferent as is the feel of the cutter...it just sounds like its all preference is all im saying.

Hahah im just trying to justify my buying of my X1

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

Ive had a Xikar for a few months, and its to the point where it sticks, and I think the spring is broken inside.. its being sent back to be repaired, and in the meantime, Ive gotten in on the Palio cutter group buy and the stinky ashtray group buy.. Everyone Ive talked to loves the palio, and I have a feeling Im going to love it too.

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

I have had both the Xicar and the Palio, and I like them both. I would give the edge to the Palio, for me it just cuts cleaner.
and my darn Xicar jumped out of the golf cart....stupid cutter.

Joe (VS), Ceedee and Dartsinusa's comments are spot on.

I have two xikars. They do they job. But they do pinch and I would not trust them on my rarest and most important cigars. The cut is not clean.

Buy the Palio. It is much more precise and cuts with considerably less effort.

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

ive had 3. one, the cheaper red-stone ish looking fack. this is best cutter ive had for the money for everything. THen i had a chrome and maple one and at double the price it was a nightmare. the maple wood glue came off first and i had to rig the right side back on. then the button to unlatch the blades for cutting, broke. flat out. then i was gifted the chrome and rosewood one and its amazing. sharp as day 1, probably 150 cigars and going. so like a cigar (i guess, , ) they are ahh hit and miss

now thats a long sorry

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

Years ago my wife bought me a Zino double guillotine cutter. That cutter was supposed to be self sharpening. I loved that cutter until it disappeared at a party.

I always thought that cutter was the best to have. Now you don't hear about the self sharpening cutters anymore. Wonder why???

At this point I'm using one of my razor sharp Messermeister carving knives for the kitchen to surgically remove the cap without cutting into the tobacco. Works great for me.

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

Ive got the CS Havana Cutter and love it. You could pick up 10 or so of those for the price of a high end xicar. And yes Ferraris are the best

I use a punch cutter myself. Doesn't work for everything though. For smaller sticks, I use a cheapo.

I recently won an ebay auction for "4" MeanSardine Cutters and a free triple flame torch lighters for $17.00, that's $4.25 each, for a truly great cigar cutter.

Thanks for the info on this cutter. I ordered one the other day having not previously heard anything about it. Glad to know it will do the job.

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

I used to really like my Xikar but its performance has dropped over time and I notice it pinches. It used to be my preferred cutter until I got a high quality freebie from my local B&M which cuts very well. I'm now looking to get hold of a Palio but it seems nobody in Switzerland sells them at the moment.

Re: Xikar Cutters....Worth it?

I have two Xi2 cutters (the red/blue combo). I had to send the red one back to Xikar. The spring went bad. Customer service was excellent!!! The representative was very friendly and replaced the cutter for me. She emailed me when they received the cutter and also when the new one was shipped out!!! I like the cutter! The leather pouch is nice too.
I also have two Xikar Mean Sardine's. These are my throw in the pocket and go cutter. Got these off an eBay seller who I'd purchased from previously. Bought these outside of eBay from him....good service. Fast shipping too! I'm in NY and he's in Washington State.
