Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

There will always be debate about "the best", but I would recommend a high quality cutter. Whether you chose Xikar, Palio, SAK, etc is a personal decision. Don't the low end Xikars go for around $25 online?

I really like my Xikar and they could be had pretty cheap if your patient andnot over-bid over on C-Bid.

Not imho. Palio's better anyways, heck those cheap havana CS cutters I like better than Xikars.

Xikar's pinch and feel awkward in the hand. I have had a few, gave em all away.

They are worth it if you want a cutter that you wont have to replace after a few months but, it wouldn't hurt to shop around either

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

Agree with my BOTL's, that "better" is a personal thing. Kind of like debating which is 'better', a Ferrari or Lamborghini. Among better cutters mentioned here, you won't go wrong.

Seems VS doesn't like the ergonomics of the Xikar, and prefers Palio. I found the Palio type to be more awkward to use than the Xikar. Either way, you won't go wrong. Try getting together with some LLG's for a herf, and I'm sure you'll see a variety there. Use 'em and see which one you like, then buy that one.

Don't worry about the price... as I said a long time ago, the pain of poor quality lasts much longer than the pleasure of a bargain price. You get what you pay for. Consider it an investment divided over the years of use you'll get out of it.

Okay, I thought I was the only one that thought this. I had a cheap $6 cutter from my local B&M (the ones you pick up by the register) to start with, and it cuts quick and clean. But my Xikar Xi *does* seem to pinch before it cuts. Kind of annoying. Doesn't feel as quick and sharp. It still gives a good cut, it just doesn't "feel" right.

Am I just doing something wrong? Remember, I'm new...

One of the best cutters out there IMO. Buy one.

I have a Xikar and really liked it until Klugs gifted me some havana cutters. Those things are unbelievably sharp!

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

I don't dislike my Xikar, but I do LOVE the Havana cutters (the one from the CS GB from Dave). Unless it is a large RG stick, the Havana has served me well. I had thought about getting another Palio (I have had one already and sold it) but I don't need another cutter. If I had it to do it again, I would by the Palio instead. The Xikar has a tendancy to make a "stepped" cut. Not bad, but not prefect. My spent

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

I've really considered buying one, but the romantic in me just cant resign the one my girlfriend bought me, the very first cutter I ever used, some $10 generic brand. Works liek a beauty though. Even if the blades fall out every time I pull it out of my pocket...

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

well this decision was settles about 5 min ago when i bought a Xikar Xi for 37 bux off ebay...42 with shipping. Pretty ridiculous considering i stopped at the smoke shop today and saw them going for 65 pretax. Man that place is becoming more of a rip off everytime i try and buy something there.

Re: Xicar Cutters....Worth it?

First off, Ferraris are the best. Now on to cutters.

I have a Xikar and a Palio, but I use a punch for 90% of the cigars I smoke so neither get a whole lot of use. That being said, they both get the job done very well. But I say go with the Palio and support a fellow BOTL!
