Actually there are reputable vendors who make a style out of a plastic (lexan ?) not great for ageing, but a nice display

Golfman, a cedar-lining in your humidor is not necessary to the proper maintenance of cigars. That's not to say cedar linings don't have certain advantages that add to an already decent humidor, but the absence of it won't take anything away from a good humdor.

If you look at some of the finest humdors from decades past, even very expensive ones like Dunhills, you'll note that they're either lined with tin, copper or nothing at all. Many older humidors were lined with glass, some had clay linings or lids to help absorb and hold humidity.

Spanish cedar imparts a nice aromatic flavor and odor to the cigars, helps buffer for RH swings, and some allege help minimize the effects of a beetle infestation, but in the grand scheme of things it's not a necessity, especially now that we have bead technology.

The overwhealming consensus is that cigars will age just as well in an inert container like a tupperdor without cedar as they will in the finest humidor.

The mahogany statement was an addition to Hammer's post.

I posted a pic for those interested in what you bought and how it looks.

I have Vicksburgs.

Re: Humidor Suggestions?

Golfman, sorry if I came off strong.

If you got that for 10 bucks, congrats, it is a great find! I would say there is more than 10 bucks worth of wood alone on that, so it just sounds kind of strange

This is one of the sites with some plastic humidors – not the ones I was talking about, but very solid travel humis: http://www.armoredhumidor.com/
