Re: Poll on setting your stogie down (2nd poll ever)
I set it down. It helps me pace my self. I tend to puff too fast if I don't.
I am also usually reading when I smoke, so it's natural to set the stogie down to turn pages and whatnot. |

Re: Poll on setting your stogie down (2nd poll ever)
I rarely hold now adays. I've relaxed a lot more about my smoking so I now take MRN with me if I'm smoking something he's reviewed. But if not I take a book with me. I've found that allowing the cigar that relax time helps it burn a lot better. I've often put down a stick with an un-even burn to look at it 60 seconds later and find it has corrected itself.
I think the tastes are a lot more even as well. If I hold it in my hands I feel like I tend to rush.

Re: Poll on setting your stogie down (2nd poll ever)
For me, Smoking a cigar is a relaxed enjoyable experience. Besides I find that for me it is good to let the cigar "cool" a bit before draws. So I set it down, but I want the ash to stay on so I really prefer a cigar specific ashtray like this one...

usually im holding it, i like the feel of the cigar, i think its an important part of the experience. when im out i dont like resting it on the cigarette smokers ashtray so i normally ask a friend to hold it for me while i get a drink/go to the bathroom.

I give it a little breathing room between puffs, it helps the burn and the pace.

I set it down now and again, it makes my ashtray feel needed

Re: Poll on setting your stogie down (2nd poll ever)
If I'm smoking at home, I usually set it down. I have a special stand that I made out of wood to set my stogie on between puffs. If I'm out, I usually don't. If I need my hands free, I keep it in my mouth. I hate to set something I'm going to put back in my mouth down on any surface in a public place.

Re: Poll on setting your stogie down (2nd poll ever)
I hold it the entire time, except for when I have to flip or baste whatever's grillin', or when I have to go inside to refill drinks.

Re: Poll on setting your stogie down (2nd poll ever)
You guys that never set it down are my idols. You must have three or four arms. I can't play pool, take a shot of whiskey and kill a beer holding my cigar. My hat is off. I just like ensuring that the stog is placed safe when my hands go to doing other things
