Usually standing/sitting around with friends not doing anything else than smoking/drinking. It verrrry rarely leaves my hand...until that beast is smoked that is

Apartment Balcony = On the stinky (that sounds soooo DRRTY!)
Herf'n = Any level ledge where appropriate to set it on (aka non-expensive items)

Cooking in the back, yea, I set it down. When my neighbors and myself have The Great Smoke Off every week, it never leaves my hand. At a herf-never put it down.

I have to put my cigar down otherwise I'll puff the hell out of it and it'll get hot and start burning and tasting crappy.
I'm a former cigarette smoker (I quit last Saturday and it's killin me!) so perhaps I'll eventually retrain myself to smoke cigars properly and not like cigarettes.
