Cigar Nation

I just finished listening to the latest episode of the Cigar Nation podcast. I don't know why I continue to do that. That show seems like proof to me that just because you CAN do a podcast doesn't mean you SHOULD. I think these guys are giving all of us in the midwest a bad name!

Re: Cigar Nation

I used to listen to them a while back. After weeks and weeks of not putting out an episode i gave up on them.

At that point i started listening to DWSC and tried to listen to Cigar Nations latest episode at the time, i just couldnt bare to listen to it and had to turn it off.

Right now im a die hard DWSC listener and like to throw in an episode of Blowin Smoke every now and again.

I listen to DWSC every week too, and Blowin' Smoke whenever it comes out.

Re: Cigar Nation

I know both Josh & Eric, they work together, both have young families. Decent guys with a lot going on. I do think the personality (such as it is ) is about the same around the local haunts as on the show.
They are out there giving it a shot, and its better than I could do ( I’m getting too set in my favorites to try that many different ones), so I give them credit for that

Re: Cigar Nation

I listen to them from time to time. Usually when Stern is on replay. I listen to DWSC and Blowing Smoke religously though. You can't go wrong with either of those two shows.
You can tell that the two hosts from Cigar Nation give it thier best shot, but sometimes the content is lacking. Definatly give them credit for the effort. I'll continue to check in from time to time to see if the show improves.

I listen to them here and there.

Gotta give them credit. Not easy to do a podcast.

Re: Cigar Nation

Speaking from experience I can say that podcasting is a lot of work. I do my show solo and I can imagine how it is for two people to coordinate times to get together and record a show. I listened to the Cigar Nation a week or so ago and thought it was a decent show. It isn't nearly as good as DWSC, but I download about 10 shows a week so one more is no biggie. I watch more than one tv show a week as well...and more than one football game...

Re: Cigar Nation

Cigar Nation was my introduction to the podcast experience. I think Walt hit the nail on the head when he mentioned that the show went long stretches without a new episode whereas podcasts like the DWSC are produced like clockwork. But they do seem like very good guys who have a passion for cigars and I will continue to listen to them to show support.

Re: Cigar Nation

I've talked to Josh quite a bit via email, and he is a great guy.

I have a young family too, and it is tough to get any time for yourself ... not to mention the time required to put together a podcast!

Re: Cigar Nation

As much as I love listening to DWSC, I still enjoy listening Josh and Eric. I think that no matter how good or bad a podcast is, if the subject is cigars, I'll listen.

I totally agree. I give them respect for caring enough about the hobby to make the podcast. It doesn't matter how infrequently they come out. I listen and read everything I can about cigars.

Re: Cigar Nation

I think it's fine to give an "E for effort", and I never assumed that Josh and Eric were anything but nice guys ( I'm sure I would enjoy hanging out with them) but that doesn't change the fact the show just isn't very well done, informative, or entertaining. (In my opinion.)

I was the same way, now I just don't bother with anything other than DWSC! (www.dogwatchsocialclub.com)

I do agree though that ANYTHING cigar related is fun to listen to (except Cigar Dave)!

Re: Cigar Nation

A while back Jerry turned me on to a guy that produced "The Cigar Indian" podcast. It was a single guy doing a podcast, it was very dry but it covered a lot of cigar history. I really enjoyed the show but it was infrequent.

I dont mean to sound negative in any respect towards the guys that put out the effort to do a show. Maybe im just spoiled by DWSC and find it very inconvienent to constantly check the website week after week to find a single new show.

I do give the guys that do this a high level of respect, especially trying to run a portion of a website that only deals with cigar reviews. It takes alot of work to put out this type of publication, regardless of audio or the written word. Its alot of work, and for the most part only produces a little amount of praise.

I talk so highly of DWSC only because they have survived the test of time, and they also prove week after week that thy have the kind of dedication that i only strive for.
