Thumbs down IT Cameroon Legend - Sucking on a salt mine!?

I lit up an aged (1.5 years) Cameroon Legend this evening after a good meal and all I could taste is salt. I thought it would pass, but 40 minutes into it , still a salt mine! That's all I could taste. It was terrible! My fiance even had a couple puffs of it and she said it was so salty she couldn't believe it!

Also, need I mention this is one of my favorite cigars? This is the third box I've smoke, none of them have been this way.

Anyone else ever have a cigar that was so salty you just couldn't even smoke it?

Would post this in reviews, but it's also a question; figure it will get more responses here.

Maybe just a one off bad crop of tobacco etc, especially if youve had 3 boxes and the rest have been fine.

I am surprised especially with the rest you gave it. Mine have been down only for about 6 months but they are already much better than when I first got them.

I'm hoping it's an anomaly! I might just give them a couple months before I have another.

My guess would be that whatever you had for supper had an additive that activated the salt flavor on your palate with this cigar. Your taste buds can, in actuality, taste 4 different basic flavors (salty, sweet, sour, bitter).

3 boxes and one bad one...sounds like a fluke.

I think that could be it. This hasn't happened to me before.

We had fried rice with chicken and shrimp followed by fruit smoothies with bannanas, blackberries and strawberries. Both made from scratch. Not at all uncommon and hasn't produced this effect on my pallatte. Maybe I'm coming down with a cold?

The Asian dish may have had monosodium glutamate? The shrimp likely had sodium tripolyphosphate which was probably listed as a moisture retention agent. Actually, STP (as it is called in the industry) makes the shrimp suck up water like a sponge. This adds weight........I guess I don't have to tell you the rest of the story.

BTW, there is a good chance that the chicken had been pumped with a fairly substantial amount of salt water solution.

Re: IT Cameroon Legend - Sucking on a salt mine!?

I recall some time ago picking up a cigar at a local store that was advertised as a Cohiba (and for $3 I knew it probably wasn't, LOL...) - had no band or anything like that, but I was feeling adventurous. Anyway, when I finally did get around to sparking it up, I did get a taste from it that reminded me of getting a mouthful of ocean. I sat there wondering if they'd been kept in brine to preserve their integrity. (Humidor? HAH! We don' need no steenkin' humidor! )

You hit this right on the head; STP is listed right on the shrimp package. What should I do to cleanse my pallatte after a meal like this? I'm going to try to brush my teeth and drink some coffee. Anything else I should try?
