Re: Seeking Five FOGs For Freebie Frolic

Ok guys this isn't meant to offend anyone and if it does, oops, sorry.

What I think Mister MaDuroo is trying to say in a nice way is he is looking for FOG's. If I am wrong please correct me Mister MaDuroo.

As I said I am not trying to offend you guys but I haven't seen one person post here that is a FOG. I am not a FOG. hell I am a Newb and would say I have more smoking experience than most of you (excluding Lumpy).

Just to clear things up a FOG is someone like poker, drill, MoTheMan, etc. No one who has posted here is what would be considered a FOG. And no matter what your RG and post count is ,that doesn't make you a FOG. Experience smoking cigars makes you a FOG.

Mister MaDuroo is looking for, and correct me if I am wrong, is some smokers with a bit of experience. I wouldn't even post here because he asked for FOG's. Like I said I don't mean to offend , but I haven't seen anyone who has posted here that would qualify, except for Lumpy, even tho Lumpy isn't a FOG, he has lots of experience. And would be the only one who has posted that qualifies.

I hope I haven't misinterpreted your thread, Mister MaDuroo. And If so I am sorry. But I don't think he is looking for newbs.

Edited for spelling errors and I probably still mispelled something

Nice post, Brent. I was thinking the same thing but I wouldn't have put it as nicely as you did

Great idea Anita this would probably be the best method. Bump for the Keeper of the Roledex( and Frank's smokes) for a great idea.

Re: Seeking Five FOGs For Freebie Frolic

So, ok ... what exactly makes someone a FOG ?
In life, I'm a FOG ... I'm 48, served eight years in the Corps, I've been a Cowboy A Pipefitter, a Cowboy again, I've owned my own custom saddle and leather business for 20 years, Been married three times. Servived being shot at, bombed, a Helo crash, an industrial accident that broke my neck and fractured my skull .... I've been smoking for 30+ years, Cigars, Cigarette's, pipe ...you name it ( None of that wackey tabacey tho. )
I'm a grizzled old fart who will be the first to tell you " Life's rough, Get a helmet" ... But words in the smoking world like "Creamy" and Choacolaty, or Leathery ( and I know a bit about leather ) don't mean squat to me.
I like Tobaco, I like cigars ... cigars with a punch that can tingle my old burned out taste buds ... Am I a refined writter of reviews, Nope.
I either like em or I dont.
But to this site I'm an FNG,...a newbie ... Yes I've learned quite a bit here.
More refined ways of looking at smoking, new ideas new things to try.
This site and everyone here has become kind of a second home to me, your all great, Young uns' old farts Guys, Gals ...Everyone.
So I ask ... What qualifies someone as a FOG ?
Ant time I can help with anything around here, Just ask ...I will always do whatever I can to help my Tobaco loving Brothers ans Sisters here at CS.

Stitch, you are definatly an FOG when it comes to life experience and when it comes to leather.

Here is my take on the subject. It's a student/pupil type thing to me.

I think the saying goes, "you know it, when you see it". When you are in awe of the knowledge they possess on a subject, this being cigars. Or they show you something you didn't think even existed and explain what it is and why it is. The in-depth knowledge of the industry as a whole. That is what I think of when I think of FOG as it relates to CS. Not necessarily old in age because there are some young FOGs out there. Sadly, most of the FOG's around here don't post anymore but there contribution is in the archives and there is a wealth of knowledge there.

Ok, here you go a FOG is someone who has extensive knowledge of Cigars both NC and Cuban, Has smoke Cigars for a while, and has much more knowledge then you or I posses. Someone that has probably more cigars than you or I will ever see and probably smoke better and rarer cigars than, you or i will have a chance to.

Here is an example: MoThe Man, poker, drill, Bruce, pds, Radar, etc..

I mean you no disrespect ,but you and I and many others are not FOGs.

I pulled this from one of your older post;

a few years ago while in Mexico I got this idea that I wanted a cigar, and low and behold I was able to buy real Cubans.
The things tasted like moldy old rag weed, I threw all five of them away.
i know for a fact that Castro ruined the tobaco industry down there
and last month I had a G.R. Gran Habano from Honduras that just knocked my socks off !
So why all the fuss about Cuban's ?
Lurking and Learning
Stitch.
If you don't have an idea of what the big idea about Cubans is ,then you are definately not a FOG. This post tells me that, possibly, you can't even tell a fake from a real Cuban. That would mean you aren't a FOG.

So I will add that age means nothing in being a FOG ,but It can help. I respect evrything that you have been involved with in your life ,but a FOG you are not. I don't mean to sound condesending or aloof. i am just trying to help people understand.

Re: Seeking Five FOGs For Freebie Frolic

NCRadioman and ComicBookFrak hit the nail right on the head,
I agree with them whole heartedly ...All of those things which they mention are what I think of as a FOG as it relates to this site ...
I've smoked a ton of drug store cigars in my life, but my experence with true quality cigars is still new, ...I consider myself a Newb in this regard and probably will for some time ....
So, Come on all you CS FOG's Chime in here.

Yes - I'd prefer some older lads with a good sense of taste and notions of cigar character - and one younger oddity.

But in all fairness, I also said "one year or more...". That's a pretty broad, if not confusing, plate to serve from. Fact is, what I'm looking for isn't vast expertise so much as a good clean review from some folks with good sense and a little maturity. Lets go with those who piped up and get these cigars lit.

CBF - you qualify based on your wise, tactful and totally Yoda-like insightful remarks above. You're drafted!
Anita - you piped in all sage-like and know cigars as well as you know Frank. You're drafted.
Stitch - you're old, not as old as me, but old enuff. Welcome, BTW. You're in.
LT Rich - your head is screwed on. You qualify.
Catfishm2 - pm'd his interest in the thread and is now drafted. Too bad for him.
TriShield - you are the appointed oddity.

So, please pm me your addies or I'll just hunt you down anyhow; instructions will be included with the NC cigar.

Thanks to other vols. If this pans out interesting your day will come!

Thanks for the invite Mister MaDuroo! Just remember I am a newb too, and in no way want to be confused with a FOG.

Re: Seeking Five FOGs For Freebie Frolic

Well I'm Honored to be a part of this. I still think I'm a newb,
I will do my best to do a good review and not disapoint the real FOG's around this site.
I may be old, but I can still learn new tricks ... I think.

OK - lets call it what it is; I've come unFOG'd but don't think it'll at all diminish the reviews. You all know a stogie from a bottle rocket.
