Just back from the states (minor cigar ****)

Well, this afternoon I just got back from a few weeks in the states,

A good few days were spent in PA (around Northumberland / Sunbury for those interested) meeting up with the family on my wife's side and of course we took up suggestions to sample the local beers including the various Yuengling brands. We also managed to find the brewery in Pottsville who gave us an excellent tour around the facility and a few free samples afterwards (it was just a shame I had to drive).

After that we moved up to New York city and did all the normal touristy stuff, with added cigar shop visits where ever possible. Visited Nat Sherman on 5th Ave, The Village Smoke Shop, JR Cigars, Davidoff, Barclay Rex outside Grand Central and a whole host of other places buying what I liked here and there. By far the most impressive humidors were in Nat Shermans and the Davidoff store though I bought nothing in the latter after pointing out a beetled cigar and a few piles of dust to the assistant.

Didn't get to smoke much at all during the holiday, mostly due to the crazy restrictions in NYC. All I ended up with was a Java Wafe smoked while sitting around on a very hot afternoon in PA, a so so cigar, to be honest I can't see what people find to rave about them, and a Chateu Fuente while sitting around Times Square around 11 at night watching the world go by.

With all the cigar shop trips I didn't come home empty handed, in fact I planned ahead and took over a small tuppaware with some beads, I just bought a few of what I fancied and what I had been looking for (Don't worry Dan, the wish list you are working on is still good, just send over what you planned ) and most of them made it back to Switzerland in one piece. One of the large CAO Sopranos seems to have split and the RP sun-grown has also burst its wrapper near the head.

Not a bad little haul for a 20x10x12 little tupperador.

Oh I also managed to grab a cheap 3 stirrup Stinky ashtray for $20 from JR Cigars on 5th Ave but no matter how hard I looked I could find nowhere that stocked Palio cutters, I believe my wife is now sick of hearing "Do you have Palio Cutters?" multiple times a day!

One thing I have to mention though, how the hell do you guys cope with such massive portions of food in restaurants, I don't believe I have eaten so much as I have in the last two weeks, some of the portions could easily feed three people and it seems that most plates go back to the kitchen with leftovers - I noticed food was cheap but the amount was just nuts!

We're fat and demand large portions! The land of milk and honey and all that.

Zenistar - That is an excellent haul you made. It's a funny thing how the grass is always greener on the other side - I have had great cigar shopping experiences in Switzerland. Being able to buy Havanas at will was amazing.
The Davidoff shop in Geneva in the 70's was also amazing - the quality and flavor of their Cubans has never been equalled IMO. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it.
Anyway, sounds like a pretty fun vacation you had. Larry:s

Sounds like you had a fun trip. Yeah we eat alot of food here. My mother and grandmother always split a plate anytime we go out. It is the land of fat people. Just think you dident even get to visit the south and soul food.

Maybe I'm just a fat git, but I'm all for the American food portions... and free refills on racks of ribs at restaurants? Man, last time I ate four racks of ribs in one meal. And pudding.

You shouldn't be disappointed with the Padrons, those are some nice smokes. And the Cusanos. And the RP Vintage.
