My first GOL had a real BIG ASH

Had my first CAO GOL tonight and she had a real big ash.

She looked and smelled great, had a firm body and a nice dark wrapper. She also had the lightest draw I've had in a long time.

To compliment this first meeting, my libation was three fingers of Crown Royal on the rocks. We met outside my house in the great Pacific Northwest with weather in the mid 70's.

Before lighting the flavor was great and I began to expect some great things before the night was over

When I lit her up, I was supprised to find that she was so gentle and smooth but things were about to change. About a half inch into her she started to come out of her wrapper and was splitting at the seams. Not a good thing and I started to get concerned, I could hear the binder breaking through the wrapper but she was smoking great and starting to build in strength.

Half way through, things were going great, except for the wrapper that was still spliting and then it dawned on me that the ash was still hanging in there.

When I had an inch and a half to two inches left the wrapper quit spliting and she was turning into the cigar that I had expected, and the ash was still hanging in there.

When I got down to about 3/4 of an inch, my fingers started getting hot but the ash was still holding on tight.

Over all, if I hadn't had trouble with the wrapper, I would have given this cigar an 8.5 Left me with a warm fuzzy feeling.

I will post some pictures if I can fiqure out how. I have never posted pictures on the net before.

I think I figured out the picture posting.

First picture is the wrapper spliting and second is the ash.

Re: My first GOL had a real BIG ASH

Im surprised the ash hung on that long with the split wrapper... from what I have seen ash quality seriously degrades when the wrapper splits. I have always knocked cigars with in-flight wrapper issues to the bottom of the list, but I may have to reconsider that after this post!

Re: My first GOL had a real BIG ASH

Great review. I also like the Gols and have had similar wrapper splitting experiences which detract from an otherwise great smoke.

Re: My first GOL had a real BIG ASH

I've smoked plenty of Gol!s and have never had the slightest indication of a wrapper problem. Slight burn problems, yes.

The Gol! is one of my favorite smokes for sure - always nubbin' 'em...

Re: My first GOL had a real BIG ASH

Great pics. The Gol is fastly becoming a favorite of mine for my after lunch smoke. To echo other's comments, I too have had issues with the split in the wrapper, but the ash length has also been impressive. Enjoy!

I have two of those sitting in the humi waiting for a nice Saturday afternoon. Before Longashes raised prices I was looking to buy a box of these.

I felt like you were describing a date that you had and not a smoke. Good review. Was like two different kinds of cigar **** in one thread, verbal and visual.

Re: My first GOL had a real BIG ASH

Thanks BOTL's

What can be done about the wrapper split.

I received these on Monday and put them in my humi for 24 hours @67% RH.

Those of you who haven't had split issues. What RH is your humi at?

I liked this gar, but, if I keep having wrapper problems, I don't know if I will be buying anymore.

Re: My first GOL had a real BIG ASH

I have to wonder if maybe you just got a bad one. I like to keep my brazillias at about 70% and I've never had one split.

great review, definitely borderline **** The brazillias are my personal favorite, glad to see you enjoyed it!
