Snake Interupting My Smoke This Morning

Ok, I will be the first to admit it. I hate snakes. In fact, I am not afraid of many things, but I have a fear of snakes.

This morning I was sitting out on my back lower deck, in my porch swing chatting with my son enjoying a nice breeze.

My son points to a decorative stone we have in the back yard and says, "Dad, is that a snake head sticking up?" I think it is, I said. I had to get my wife to come out and she flipped the stone up and a 3 foot long black snake came crawling right at me. Needless to say I jumped back on the deck and looked for anything I could throw at the killer black snake.

Eventually the snake crawled harmlessly under the fence into my neighbors yard.

Tried to get back to my smoke but it just wasnt the same.

I too hate snakes and have a fear of them. We live 20 miles from the nearest little town out in the country, so we deal with snakes alot. Down here in TX, a good ol shotgun takes care of them pretty good.

Sorry it ruined your smoke, in a few weeks try that same cigar when we watch the Skins scalp the pokes bet it tastes much better then.

Long after we got rid of our boat, Dad kept a long oar in the garage just for snakes. You bring the skinny end of an oar blade down on a snake and it is dead. I saw a small snake in our front yard the other day and decided to buy an oar..

If I recall, you're the second ape to have his cigar interrupted by a snake this summer. Maybe they are attracted by a good smoke?

Btw ... I feel the same way about snakes ... even those "killer" black snakes. Guys used to walk around at scout camp with black snakes draped around their necks ... gave me the creeps.

I hate snakes with a passion. Once had a 3 or 4 footer in our yard. I choped that mo fo up with a shovel so fast.

I am much more passionate about gophers who are destroying my yard. The only snakes we need to worry about around here rattle...then I would just shoot it.

I always found them helfull to have around the yard(not the poisonous varieties of coarse) They eat a lot of bugs and mice.

I gotta agree with CigarGal. Unless it's a rattler, I leave them alone.

Gophers though - I've been hunting one of the disgusting underground rodents for three weeks now. I've flushed it, tried to poison it and dropped something similar to an M-80 down it's miserable filthy hole, all to no effect.

And, I keep having flashbacks of the movie Caddyshack.................

Give me a snake anyday.

Oh boy I really feel on the snake issue. I can't watch them on TV I probley would have shot it several times. eeewwwwww

Well if he's hanging around there must something nearby to eat....Moles,mice or whatever. They are a little scary but I try to ignore them.
