Thompson returns are costly

Before I start, a word in my defense. I didn't know about the Jungle before ordering from Thompson and will cease ordering after receiving 250 inexspensive cigars that some of my friends like, so I can get 10% back on what I ordered from them.

I received some La Palomas cigars from them and after smoking 1 and sending 1 to sgresso, I returned them to Thompson.

I found out this morning that it cost me $26 to return these. That is nearly half the price of the cigars and when I add the delivery fee I payed to get them, I'm out almost 3/4 the original price.

It's funny that they will not UPS to Washington State so I had to wait almost a month to receive them, but, low and behold, the only way I could send them back to Thompson was by UPS.

If I hadn't bought the Humidor (which I really like) from them and a bunch of cigars, I would have cut the strings already. Since I only need to buy a few more cigars to get 10% back, I will stick it out and then apply the 10% towards some Arturo Fuentes and call it quits.

Well I'll step off my soap box now I wish I would have found the Jungle a couple months ago.

Friends don't let friends buy cigars from Thompson.

Take Care

Thomopson takes another victim. Dont feel bad, I too ordered from Thompsons. A small desktop humi and it came with their chepo cigars. A mistake that wont happen again.

Re: Thompson returns are costly

you can find some occasional deals on thompsons. I bought a nice humidor awhile back and I use the 50 million crap cigars they give you free to give to non-cigar friends that come over and want something to smoke.

You just have to be careful.

After all that trouble the only way I'd order from them again would be if they turned that 10% off into 100% off. Just doesn't seem worth it for 10%...

I've never ordered from Thompson's, doesn't sound like I ever will.

I would say, cut my losses and run! Every cigar you buy from them you could get from a vendor that would value your business. They are also so overpriced that the 10% isn't savings at all. I would go to Serious, Holts, CI, and many others for future purchases (or a local B&M if you have a good one).
BTW, Check out www.famous-smoke.com for good prices on Fuentes.

I couldn't be happier with the Millionaire Humidor I bought from them and the La Condesa cigars are a hit with some friends that like Macanudos.

I will finish up with the 79 cent La Condesa cigars and call it quits.

I trod the same path you're on. I bought my first humi from Thompson's along with a lighter and some of their own-brand smokes. That wasn't a bad deal and I still use the humi.

I also signed up for their cigar-club, but looking back, I would say that sticking with it just to get the 10% coupon is just good money after bad. Their house brands suck and their non-house blend prices are not very competitive.

Just my .

Well don't feel to bad, I think every one, at least almost everyone here used thompson when first starting out. I did to and learned the hard way....but you've made it through the toughest part, now enjoy the rest of your journey my friend.

Like my dad always says. Cut your losses and just move on.

It could have been worse. Could have been a bigger order.

Stay away from Thompsons !!!!

Re: Thompson returns are costly

I have never ordered from them. Been gifted a few Thompson sticks from friends however...The Amoroso was actually pretty good. The other two were like smoking a cat turd.

I still like to thumb through the catalog and read the descriptions.

"Not Cuban, But Nobody wants to believe it"
"Looks Like a Cuban, Tastes Like a Cuban, But it isn't a Cuban!"

I also like how everything is "Rare" and a "Puro"

Re: Thompson returns are costly

I've never ordered cigars from Thompson. All I'll order from them is lighters/cutters. If you compare their prices with say...JR, you'll see JR's MSRP is the LOW Thompson price!!
A few months ago I found out about CI and their prices are within a buck or two of JRs. And now that I've been put on to Cigar Bid (thanks to fellow forum members for making me spend money! )......Thompson? Who are they??????

Re: Thompson returns are costly

I agree with you all Thompson's duz suck. I bought some stuff from them when I was a newbie. I still have some of those dog rockiets can't wait to unload them. I surely won't be smoking them. I (as a gift) recieved a humidor from them and has given me nothing but trouble. I am going to put some cheap sticks that look nice in it and leave it as decoration.

Re: Thompson returns are costly

Well, live and learn. Too bad they could make up for a lot with better customer service. I get more from my B and M. But my B and M doesn't care a Pheonix.....But, then again, my B and M gives me freebies and info and just good common cigar care. They have even been interested in being a part of CS. So my B and M means a lot and it is only a few minutes away.
The stuff they don't carry I talk to them about. They also give discounts for box purchases. And I can order from them over the Internet.

Or I can order what I need from the internet retailers.
