First off, it was a DON JUAN.. Its not like it was a PAM or Opus. Second, When you leave your stogie in a PUBLIC ashtray, you run that risk. Threatening to beat a guy just because YOU left your cigar unattended in a PUBLIC ashtray is just plain childish. I'm with Pnoon on this one. 5 posts here, and you cop an attitude like you are owed something. Sit back and chill for a minute. Jeez.

When I was working in Manhattan and went out for lunch while smoking a stick and stopped someplace to grab a sangwhich I would rest it on the window frame with the ash side in so the mouth piece hovered off the side of the window sill with no contact to the surface. Leaving your stick in the ashtray was risky to begin with IMHO. Kind of asking for something bad to happen with leaving it there unattended. I can be a short fused A-Hole but I think even I would have blamed myself rather than the punk in that situation. I would have been pissed but probrably more at myself for being careless. If he watched you rest it on the window sill or something and he spit on it than maybe that would have been different story but still it was left unattended.
Now if he spit on it while you were smoking it than it would have been time for a smack down

I just want to ask you people who keep telling him it was his fault, where should he have put it? In his pocket? Maybe he should have walked into a public place (we all know whats happening in the country now) and continued to puff away? The logical thing is to place on a designated area specifically for lit or unlit tobacco products. The fact that it was still lit and teetering on the edge meant he wasn't done with the stogie.

Also, I can understand his frustration and why he may have copped an "attitude" if thats what you call it. He came on here, new to the board, tried to throw out a story he thought people could relate to and got pounced upon by I would have done the same thing in his situation...you don't spit on someone elses product that is STILL lit, especially when there was probably grass around or, most likely, another ash tray somewhere.

If it was me, I would have finished smoking it before going inside, and probably brought a second smoke for the walk back home.

My thoughts match some of the others on this one. I see something in the ash tray my last concern is if someone is coming back for it. God help THEM but I wouldn't put that thing back in my mouth. No way, nuh uh. I thought when you were heading into the store the story would go something like -> you took it in and someone got pissed that you had it in the store and then let it fly.... -> Or you left the store and someone saw you and let it fly. But the ash tray? Leaning, perfectly balanced, wrapped in a tissue, pasted with a don't touch sign... wouldn't matter to me I just wouldn't think of caring for what was in or on an ashtray.

That said I think it IS equally gross to see someone's hock in an ashtray.

So tell me, since you saw it was it a real loogie? A stringer perhaps? I mean my mind might change with more details. A loogie stringer that hung from his lip to gar then splatted, oh hell naw all bets are off.
