Sharing Your Stogies

Is there any unwritten rule about bringing enough cigars with you when you go out to offer others one?

I have a travel humidor that will fit about 6 or 7 cigars in it. When my wife and I go out to dinner at a cigar friendly restaurant I have been bringing it with me in case I run into a friend or meet a new friend while we are out.

A few nights ago we were out at this cigar friendly restaurant in Gambrills, Md
http://www.kaufmannsrestaurant.com/

I had only had one cigar with me. After dinner we went to the outside patio bar and I enjoyed my RP Sungrown with a glass of wine. Got to talking with another couple and he actually asked me "do you have another one of those with you" referring to my cigar. I felt bad because I couldn't offer him one.

Lesson learned.

In my short life experience on the subject, I have learned that if you are going to be smoking one, you better have at least one more to share. I would not say it is an unwritten rule, just good Karma

I will normally bring an extra smoke or two just incase. What I bring depends on whom I expect to run into. If I expect friends - I'll bring more of what I intend to smoke. Otherwise I'll just bring along something inexpensive and mild.

Re: Sharing Your Stogies

I don't think it's mandatory to have one for anyone else, especially if you aren't planning on meeting another couple/group....However, it's probably a good idea and may lead to new friendships if you're sitting at a table across from another cigar lover.

When I know I'm going to be smoking, I'll always carry an extra 2-3 in case of the situation you just encountered.

However, if you are going out for dinner with another couple/group and plan on smoking, I'd definitely have enough for (at least) the men. Sorry ladies, I just haven't run into any of you in my circle of friends yet.

Just my $.02.

Re: Sharing Your Stogies

depends on where Im going and who I am going to see. If I am going to a place where I know other people are going to be drunk, I bring cigars that are "meh" at best. They usually bit off the tip, light it with a bic, dont appreciate it, and chuck it halfway through anyway. They wouldnt know the difference between an aged cuban, a VSG, or a 1.95 fuente curlyhead deluxe maduro.

Re: Sharing Your Stogies

I always bring a couple with me. I often don't know what I want to smoke, usually 3-5 different ones I have in mind. So I pack up the Cigar Caddy and head out. If any of my friends/family wants one, I let them pick first and choose from there.

I guess it's like gum. You better have an extra stick!

It's always better to smoke with a friend than alone, so I try to always have another available. I was having issues with having a good way to carry some extras around and found this Le Tube 3 pocket carrier . It has been great and I highly recommend it for having a couple of extras available.

Re: Sharing Your Stogies

I always tote a few extra sticks with me. Not always do I find another cigar lover in every social setting, but have had ocassion to share a few cigars along the way. It's especially rewarding to be able to share a Habano with somebody that really appreciates a good smoke.

I will have to agree with you on this point. I had that experience last night.

I went to the Redskins/Ravens game last night. Me and a few of my friends tailgated in the parking lot. I brought some of my good RP's with me.

One of my friends friend who I didnt know very well. Said, Wow cigars! So I opened up the travel humidor and said glad to see you appreciate a good cigar, pick one out.

He picked a RP Vintage 92. Nice choice. But for some reason he couldn't keep the thing lite. Probably because he wasn't really smoking it. And he threw it on the ground and stomped on it after about 15 minutes.

If you looked closely you could see a tear in my eye.

I always bring extra sticks with me for two reasons. First, If the cigar I plan on smoking is bunk, then I have a backup and second, to hand out to a fellow botl.

I always bring extras just in case the one I choose is plugged or has some other defect. If the one I pick smokes well, then I have extras to offer.

I always bring a few extras, you never know when they will be needed. When I go onshift at work....28 days on, 28 off; I take enough for me for the shift plus extras as I hate smoking alone and then I don't have to buy beers as the guys usually trade......
