Re: What is your favorite "Devil Sight" strategy

Use the autobid feature. When you find an auction for something you're interested in buying, check the price on CI and bid 60-75%. You'll never overbid, and you won't always win, but when you do, you'll always get a deal.

I also never bid on just one thing, that way you save some extra with the combined shipping.

That was what I was going to say...If it is something that is not very high demand I would (it has been months since I bought there) only bid 60% of CI web prices. I would bid with the auto feature AS SOON AS IT WAS LISTED. That made a huge difference in the number of auctions that I won. If you bid at the last minute and someone has bid the same amount on a earlier date (with autobid) they get it. As a bonus, when I won, I was usually the lowest winning amount. If it was something popular, or something I really wanted I would go higher.

Re: What is your favorite "Devil Sight" strategy

Some rules I bid by:

Bid first
Use auto bid
Bid up to what you want to pay less than MSRP
if I'm losing , I walk away
avoid becoming dumber and more desperate than my opposition*
there will always be more of what I'm looking for
I don't bid on great deals for crappy cigars
I never bid on PAMs or Ashton VSG's; they attract those I referred to above *

Re: What is your favorite "Devil Sight" strategy

Try to refrain from bidding on anything when the quantitiy is "1."

That's like driving 100 miles to the nearest gas station, driving 100 miles home, and having to drive 100 miles to fill it up the next morning.

Re: What is your favorite "Devil Sight" strategy

Bid early
I never bid on anything that there is less than 5 of.
Use auto-bid.
Never bid over 60% of average cost.

That's it in a nutshell.

As said - you won't win them all but you will win a lot.

I also make sure to check on the samplers offered. Many times there are good deals overlooked becuase people might not check what is actually in the sampler.

Also if the lot size is large (ie 12 5-packs are available to bid on) you are likely to get a much better price than if there is only one or a couple of lots to bid on.

My strategy is to stay away from the devil sight!
Of course it doesn't always work.

I use the same strategy at cigarauctioneer.com as well.

Re: What is your favorite "Devil Sight" strategy

Good points up there, I'd add 2 more.

Never bid just because something is cheap. You might get lucky and get some nice smokes, but more often you get rockets. You are WAY better off only bidding on cigars that you've tried and like even if it looks like you're missing that "special deal".

Atrals ... aged 4 years ... sounds good ... but I don't like CT shade wrappers that much ..... probably shouldn't bid on them ....

People who set up weekly delivery are often looking for more smokes to fill the box if they've won one auction. That means that bids will be more competitive a day or two before the shipping date as they try to get "one more deal".

Place auto bid and hope for the best. After I place my bid I'm out of there.

Re: What is your favorite "Devil Sight" strategy

Those are some great tips guys. When I have gone to cigar bid it has seemd to me like their are not that many cigars up for auction. It seems that only a few thinks go each day. Am I using cigarbid wrong?
