Be patient - easy for me to say because I have two humis. One full of pipe tobac and the other full of tasty sticks! But seriously, I am sure that everything will work out. Let us know when it comes and be sure to send some pics. Read the stickys on how to prep your humi before getting started.

I agree. Can't even imagine having to watch an empty humi while waiting for smokes to arrive.

Oh yeah...forgot that whipping. I made the mistake of telling my esposa that I wasn't going to purchase anything else for a while, only to have the dude in brown show up a couple days later and leave a forgotten order on the doorstep.

Looks like a nice box . While you await it's imminent arrival , read the sticky on how to season it properly and take a road trip to get some distilled water . One other tip visit www.heartfeltindustries.com and get some 65% beads to keep the humi running smoothe and steady . They really are hassle free . The owner of the bead site is a fellow gorilla .

Re: I can't stand the wait...

Thanks for the support and tips, everyone.

I've read the stickies and will be reading them some more, just to make sure I understand completely. I'm getting 2 Humidi-Pucks (cigarmony.com, another fellow gorilla) which will ship out tomorrow sometime, so those will definitely be nice. I'm dreading the amount of time it takes to get the RH steady in the humi. Maybe I'll be lucky and it will go steady state quickly.

I suppose they say good things come to those who wait, but this is soooo tough.

I know the feeling, expecting your order and you hear the UPS truck coming down the street . . . . . . it passes your house without stopping.

Well maybe tomorrow then. Nice box BTW.

Re: I can't stand the wait...

Update!

So the humidor came on Monday, along with my cutter, humidi-pucks, stinky ashtray, and digital hygrometer. Got some distilled water from the store, and when I got home, I proceeded to start the seasoning.

Seems there are multiple methods people have for seasoning -- a few people boil some distilled water and put it in the humidor so that the wate vapor gets into the wood faster. Others wipe down the cedar inside and place a bowl of water (all distilled of course) in it for a while. Others don't wipe it down and just put a bowl in it.

I decided to do the quick wipe-down -- there was cedar dust all over, and I figured it was a 2-fer-1 to get a damp cloth and wipe it down. Put my hygromter in it afterwards and watched the humidity climb for a bit. But I knew it would come back down once the wood absorbed the water. So I got some little tupperware bowls and put a bit of distilled water in each (one for each of the 6 trays) and left the water in overnight. This morning the humidity was at 71%, this evening when I came home, it was at 75%.

So I've now taken the bowls of water out and replaced them with my 70% Humidi-pucks that I got from Mark. I'll know more in the morning how things are shaping up.

Did some checking with the digital temp/hygromter to find the best place to put the humidor. Hopefully it will be good.

Oh, and Saturday I'm picking up a brand new Suzuki C90 cruiser. This is one expensive last couple of weeks.

Re: I can't stand the wait...

Sounds like you have evrything under control. The humidity puck should keep the RH pretty much dead on once the humi is seasoned. Did you remember to salt test your hygrometer? Congrats on you new purchases it looks like you have a nice starter kit there.

Re: I can't stand the wait...

I've never had a bad experience on eBay. Maybe one shaky situation, but it worked out.

There are a number of decent looking humidors on eBay, and bigger than the one I bought off there and am still using.

these look like a hell of a deal, there's a few on there.

I got the Western Caliber III Digital Hygrometer (from Cigarmony.com). The instructions specifically state NOT to do the salt test (there's no way to calibrate it anyway). I couldn't tell if it was saying that doing the salt test could damage it in some way, or if it was just that it's not needed...

Last night when I replaced the open water with 70% beads, the RH was at 75%. This morning it's at 74% (and that's where it got to last night fairly quickly after I put the beads in).

So either:
1. the hygrometer is off by a few RH
2. I put in too much water to the humidi-pucks and they cannot absorb the excess

Maybe I should do the salt test just to be sure. Does anyone else have this hygrometer to know if the salt test would actually ruin it?

That is the chance you take with Ebay. Have you ever tried www.cigarbid.com they have some nice humis and when I win an auction at cigardbid.com it usually arrives the next day or maybe two days later.
