Flying with Cigars Recap
I did a quick search on airplanes and flying with cigars as i am going to Hawaii to smoke my Fuente Anejo Shark.
The last discussion i found was over a year old and with all of the new regulations changing every day it seams I was wondering what everyone is doing nowadays when flying with thier stogies? I am bringing a box and a bunch a singles that i am taking in a cheap 20 gar humi. Thanks Gorrilas! |

Re: Flying with Cigars Recap
* Don't bring any humidification, since iti is likely to have some liquid or some gel. (or put the humidification in checked baggage).
* Carry the cigars on with you. * Bring a cheap cutter - likely will not be taken away, mine never has, but you wouldn't want to be stuck throwing out an expensive one. * I think Otterbox makes a lighter enclosure that meets TSA regulations. I've never worried about this, I usually just buy matches or a cheap lighter once I get there. * Don't plan on bringing Cubans from another country into the US. Any other flights they should be fine.

Right now I check them. Who knows if the TSA will allow a humidifying device in the cabin?

Re: Flying with Cigars Recap
Last week, I flew with an Otterbox (no humidification system needed) and cutter in my hand luggage, two cutters in two different checked suitcases (didn't want to take any chances of not having one at my destination), and a Zippo with the z-plus insert inside the TSA-approved case in one of the checked suitcases. No problems. This is how I've traveled since the new heightened security went into effect.

Re: Flying with Cigars Recap
I travel every week and I bring my cigar caddy and cutters on board in my carry on and also bring 2 boxes of matches. I travel to the same place so I have a lighter at my workplace, but if not Colibri and Otterbox have TSA checked baggage full lighter container.

Re: Flying with Cigars Recap
Last year the TSA took a $400 Dunhill lighter that was a gift - not from my carry on - but from my checked in suit case, with a note that said I was SOL.
I called them after discovering it and the answer was: YOU ARE SOL. |

I was flying on business last year with the guy I work with. We were leaving Houston on our way back to Baltimore. They took a cutter and finger nail clipper from my friend. They offered to mail them to him but the cost of shipping was more than the value of the cutter and clippers. They also took a small hammer that is hollow that has a little tool kit in it. Chances are you probably will be ok if you follow the regulations but not all TSA employees are that smarts. My point is if you have a cutter that you are very fond of or is very expensive don't take a chance on flying with it. Leavit it at home and take a cheap cutter with you. If you have a very expensive lighter, why take a chance, just bring some matches or purchase a cheap lighter when you get to your destination. |
