Question about humidor is filling up! Rule of thumb....

Is ther a rule of thumb when room starts running out in the humidor? Does sticking the sticks three high affect the rH in any adverse way? What about the quality of the gars and the circulation? I did a search on the subject and had trouble finding anything.

Thanks in advance guys!

From what I've read, as long as there is room for some air in the humi, you should be alright. It's when they're packed in there too tightly for any air at all to circulate that you'll have problems. That's what I've gathered here, anyway. It's in no way reflective of my own experience.

You run out of room when the lid won't close.

Re: Question about humidor is filling up! Rule of thumb....

The more the merrier. I found my humidors got MORE stable the fuller they were. Depends on the size too. For a bigger humi I keep a hygrometer in the bottom and also in the top. RH typically stays within 1-3 points of each other. And that is with trays and as jam packed as I can get it. Believe me I play musical cigars and musical cigar boxes about once every 2 months to free up as much as possible. So have at it and get creative (tetris style). If it is a desktop sized humidor I have two of them at about 98% with no problems. Basically the only space not filled in them is the space between the top level of cigars and the space INSIDE the lid itself. The sticks in those are aging QUITE NICELY.

Three high is all the space between the next rack that is available.

Erm what model is your humi as 3 stacks high in a Vicksburg is different ot 3 stacks high in a 25 count. basically so long as you can close the lid and maintain the proper seal AND no cigars are touching the humidifier you should be fine.

Cigars shouldn't be right up against beads true? Even if the beads are in a tube and the tube is in pantyhose?

Re: Question about humidor is filling up! Rule of thumb....

In my experience, bead tubes do not hurt cigars. My tubes are always willy nilly in the humidor. If I had to seperate them, I'd have to remove too many smokes to accomadate.

Right Tow Greg, Mark and I talk about how the cigars in our humidors look like cord wood stacked.
