Moisture or Oil???

Sometimes I see a shine spot just below the burn line of a cigar. I see it more often on NC maduros than anything else. Is this moisture or oil?

I dunno Qwerty but my guess would be moisture. Kind of like the sizzling of a log in a fireplace as it burns if it still has a bit of moisture in it.

It's the hallucinating properties that the cigar has on your eyes.

Re: Moisture or Oil???

I think its the tears of the leaves that are about to be burned, knowing they are gonna go to the big tobacco field in the sky.

I'm in the oil camp as well - It seems to appear on smokes that possess that shiny wrapper "greasy" quality but not ones that are, well, for lack of a better worde matte.

Re: Moisture or Oil???

I've always assumed it was oil as well. Maybe you could dab some off (I know there's not much) and see if it evaporates like water.

Re: Moisture or Oil???

Water is a byproduct of combustion, right? Why not simple H2O? Or tears...I like that idea too...

Where's 3x5card?

Re: Moisture or Oil???

Arent tobacco leaves dried, ergo absence of water molecules (which is why freezing them doesnt explode them)? If thats right id go with oil as its deff true oils are in the stogies.
