Thumbs down Punch Rare Corojo

Smoked a Punch rare corojo on thursday night. Sorry it took so long for a review. I am not impressed. Slight nutty flavor predraw. Smelled great. I was excited to light this guy up as ive heard good things. First off I almost burst a blood vessel in my head because the draw was so tight. The taste after light was well....ok i guess... about halfway through though. The taste ive come to hate. Hot ammonia. Had to pitch it with about 2-3 inches left. What a waste. I am hoping i just got a bad one. On the upside I had a Padron 3000 last night a local pub while downing a few jack and cokes and it was fantastic. Nice and creamy. Great draw! Always consistent. I may have to buy a box or two of some padron's thousand series for my day to day go to smokes. Im up to about 1 every other day and have been making at least two to three trips to the local b&m every week. I also just picked up my first box purchase and a twenty count humi. My wife is getting nervous. (sighs) Im thinking of hawking some stuff to buy a bigger humi? Is that bad? hahahha! Oh well. Is this the slide everyone keeps mentioning????

Yay! I didn't like the one I smoked either, and I thought I was going crazy. Mine had a nasty aftertaste. Everyone else raves about these.

BTW when a cigar gets bad I can tell instantly. I very strongly taste almonds. When I sniff the end of a lit cigar up close, I smell almonds. Whats with that?

IMO they are very good smokes, and you probably just got a bad one. The hint for me was when you wrote about the ammonia tastes, which is an indication it is not quite ready for primetime. Give it a little more time at rest, and you will probably find it more to your liking.

I've had a few Rare Corojos, and I found them to be very enjoyable. Like donp said....you may have had a bad stick (let them rest a bit.) Give 'em another try to see if you still don't like them. However, just because we like them doesn't meen you will...but still, I think they are worth another shot.

True, if I learned anything from my recent experiences its that a cigar in it's sick period is totally different when it emerges.

Generally speaking, NCs are released well after any "sick period".

I never had a bad one, current years release, right OTB. I didn't think the PRC had a sick period, either. Very sad news. A bad one or a personal taste issue? Only one way to tell. You gotta smoke two more, Si'lar.

Wow. I love these. Sounds like you got a bad one. Give 'em another shot, but try to get them from a different dealer, in case the box your reseller got is bad.

Re: Punch Rare Corojo

I got three of these little puppies in a sampler and have smoked two. I thought they were a real fine smoke. Sounds to me like the luck of the draw wasn't working in your favor on that one. Maybe if your remaining gar were banished to the humi for a while it may mend it's ways.
