The JoeD made me do it CONTEST
JoeD is probably the most generous person on this forum. I have been hit by him many times. Since there is no possible way to get even with him, he said I need to pass the generosity along to someone new, and I agree with him.
So on to the prize. 8 sticks total Partagas Serie P No. 2 Partagas 898 Varnished SLR Serie A 03 2 x Jose Piedra Cazadores (These are cheap as hell, and prove you dont have to spend a ton of money to get an enjoyable cuban smoke) And 3 Premium Fuente products The first rhymes with "Mopus Mex" The second contains the letters GSV And the third is not not an Anejo So how do you win? There are a few simple rules. You must to have joined between June 1st and September 16th. You must have 50 posts or more by the end of this contest. You must post a little bio about yourself. If you have a thread introducing yourself, post a link to that as well You MUST MUST MUST give a huge "thank you" to JoeD, this forum is a better place because of him. Plus he has a really cute dog, and gave me a bad ass pipe. While I cant enforce this, I would like to ask one thing of people entering this. I am trying to do this for people who have limited to no experience with cubans and dont have access to premium fuente sticks at a fair price. For this, you are on the honor system. How do I choose a winner? My girlfriend and I pick one. As long as you are eligible, you have a chance to win. Try and make yourself stand apart from the crowd. Either in your thank you, or your bio. Ok, let the contest begin. Almost forgot, the contest will go until Saturday 9/23 at midnight easter time. Last edited by Lance; 09-17-2006 at 01:50 PM.. |

Re: The JoeD made me do it CONTEST
Nice contest; what a nice way to introduce someone to Cubans and some premium NCs as well.
Warning to potential participants: "Winning" this contest could well force you to spend enormous amounts of time and money in pursuit of forbidden fruit. o |

Re: The JoeD made me do it CONTEST
I actually belive I do qualify. I joined June 26th (here is my intro), I have only had one cuban cigar before, and the B&M's around my area do not carry any of the fancy Fuente products...just curlly heads, chateaus, and a few hemingways.
As far as Joed goes. I would honestly like to thank him for his participation in CS not because of the cigars it might get me...but because he is an outstanding stand up guy! I have not had too many interactions with him myself, but I have seen the impact he has had on the jungle, and I trully belive it is a better place because of him. A PERFECT example of Joe's kindness was his 50th B-day Virtual herf. You should have seen the invitations he sent out... http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=28103 As I read all of the amazing gifts he sent for his birthday...I was floored by his genorosoty and the greatfullness of all of the CS members who received those gifts. Here are some of the reactions to his invitatons. Joe deserves every post on this thread thanking him for his participation. He's a stand up guy, and a textbook definition of what it meens to be a CS Gorilla. |

Re: The JoeD made me do it CONTEST
First I would like to thank Lance for this contest. You are very generous. I have only seen pictures of most of the cigars you listed. As far as Cubans go, I had a $20 Cohiba that knocked me for a loop 4 or 5 years ago on the streets of Victoria BC Canada. I consider it the best cigar I have ever had, even though I had to find a seat on a planter next to the street while my concerned wife continued shopping in the little stores.
JoeD, anyone that can cause someone else to open the flood gates so wide as Lance has just done must not only be very generous person, but also be a person of remarkable character. I notice that we have more than an interest in cigars in common. Not only do we share an interest in dogs, I too have a shotgun collection that I started while in Junior High. I also noticed your RG. Anyone who rates 1 RG for every 2 posts in the Jungle, obviously holds the well earned respect of his fellow Gorilla's. Thank You JoeD for all that you have done for the Jungle. I hope we will meet someday and burn a few. A little about myself. My name is Ken, I'm 45 and have been married to the same Lady and held a job with the same company for nearly half of my life. I have 2 kids with the oldest now in college, (Boy is that exspensive now) and we live in the country about 25-30 minutes from Tacoma, Washington. Other than my wife and kids, my interests include cigars, a love for the outdoors, making beer, guns, hot cars, (I'm building a blown, fuel injected, 6 speed, 68 fastback Mustang and if I can talk my wife into it, I will also be buying a nice 69 Camaro with a hot 327ci I built for a friend.) Really I cannot fit all of my interests here because I like to experience everything. I bought my first truck when I was in 5th grade and have worked on mine and my friends cars ever since. Between the wife and kids our place is a rescue home for what seems like any animal that comes around. Not just dogs and cats, but rats, guinea pigs, guinea hens, hamsters, chickens, turkeys, parrots, horses, a 3 foot iguana and I'm sure I have left some out. Oh yeah, for the person that had the problem with the black snake, my wife wants it I guess thats about all I can say without boring everyone. Again I want to give a big thanks to Lance and JoeD. Have a great day. Ken Last edited by Zoomschwortz; 09-17-2006 at 03:48 PM.. |

Re: The JoeD made me do it CONTEST
It looks like I qualify so Ill throw my hat in too! Lance, thanks again for running this series - that is a nice lineup of sticks, and whomever receives them will be getting more than they bargained for!
I started at CS on 8/22/06 as seen here: http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=30135 Since my start here, I have penned a number of reviews and become active in the various forums. I just started on the Newbie sampler and will PM Ms. FloydP with my address tonight. I have 3 humidors (2 wood, one cooler) now, mostly full, with a 4th aging coolerdor on the way. I was heavily into the "cigar culture" of the 1990's, but I stopped herfin' for one reason or another a few years ago. My interest was rekindled earlier this year, and CS has been a great resource. I am 32 years old, happily married with two children who occupy a good portion of my time. Besides herfing, my main hobby is motorcycling. I have two bikes today, a restored '80s Kawi 1000cc air-cooled standard and an '02 Suzuki that is built to 125bhp and 92ft-lb of torque. It can be scary to ride at times - my wife wants me to sell both and get another Harley. Needless to say, I am entertaining the idea. I also fix up boats, play piano and limited guitar, dabble in finish carpentry, and work... a lot. JoeD, the level of generosity you have shown definitely helps make this community a better place! From the posts I have read, you are a BOTL with a great sense of humor and a true aficionado! So, here is a tremendous THANKS! from a newbie! I have to caveat the honor system though - Ill leave it to Lance if I am qualified - I do have limited experience with habanos and have posted habano reviews here before. That said, I havent tried the 8-9-8 Varnished or any Piedras yet. I do have a couple of the Siere P's laying around. I have not had any of the premium Fuentes because they are too damn expensive, although they look deeeeeeeelicious! The B&M's downtown do get the OpusX line in, but the prices are outrageous! Re: The JoeD made me do it CONTEST
Ok, here it goes, my join date was July 31, 2006. I joined because of my ever growing interest in cigars. My first post was http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=29406, which is my intro to the forum post. At this moment I have around 60 posts. Little bit about myself is that I am 20 years old from Indiana. I have been smoking cigars since I was 18 but have really gotten interested this summer, this is also because of clubstogie, if it wasn't for this forum and members like JoeD I wouldn't have half of the knowlege that I know now. So, I am very thankful to everyone who makes post daily to give something to read and learn. Looking back at my first post I have realized how much I have changed smoking after this one plus month I have been here. My new favorite cigar is the Edge and I have also had the two best cigars I have ever had in my life(1926 & 1964), which without this forum I would have really never known how great they are. The only cuban I have ever had in my life would be from a friend who gave me a knockoff Cohiba-so I have really never had a true cuban cigar. I can only get opus x at the tinder box by my house but they only get 1 to 2 boxes a year. The guy at the tinder box told me he would never carry the vsg or esg lines at his store. So premium fuentes are going to be very hard for me to get. Finally, I would like to give a very big thank you to JoeD who has given a lot to this community, but besides him I would like to give a thanks to all the members here who have provided me with so much info. Thanks

Re: The JoeD made me do it CONTEST
*stands up* Hi my name is Devin and I'm a cigar-a-holic, and it's been 10 hours since my last smoke. Ha ha but more seriously. I live in NY where you can't even smoke in public parks anymore it's sad what's happening with all the smoking bans. Anywas back on topic, I am currently a college student at the illustrius (not really) Stony Brook University which is a local state school for those that don't know. My major is biology. I enjoy sitting outside in my backyard with a nice cigar and a drink to end my day. I still consider myself very new here and have SOOO much to learn, from the great people here. One such example is JoeD who apparently made this whole contest possible because of his generosity, so a big thanks has to go out to him; and really all the Gorillas here in the jungle this place is like no other. As for my availablity to cubans or fuentes... I have never had a cuban before I have always been fairly interested to see what it is that makes them special, however with the whole college tuition thing cigar money is limited. As for fuentes I have had the short story that is about it, there arn't too many shops around me that have them and they are mucho $$$. Anyways now that you guys are probably asleep from hearing my life's story. I think I'm gonna go out back and have a cigar. Thanks again for making a great contest for us newbs just another show of the generosity of this board.
