digital hygrometer help.....

ok guys. i need some quick help on a "good" digi hygrometer to put in my humidor.

i currently have this humidor.

http://www.cigarsinternational.com/p...&cat=10&page=5

i calibrated the dial and its within a % or 2. i have prob. the cheapest digi one in the humidor also. Its ok sometimes, but lately im starting to think somethings wrong with it, so im just gonna buy a new digital and start over.

it doesnt have to be the best but, im not looking for the cheapest either... thanks.

Did you try changing the batteries? They can act very strange when the batteries run low.

Re: digital hygrometer help.....

I always recommend a wireless to new smokers because it cuts down on opening the humi. Newbs tend to do this too much. Radio Shack has one that is being discontinued for $18. You can add sensors for $13 as you expand your storage(inevitable!)

Also, get the beads! Do a search for both wireless and one for beads and educate yourself!

One more thing, try to post in the correct forum:

This is for questions about accessories.

Happy herfing!

Re: digital hygrometer help.....

The Radio Shack one is good but people are having problems finding it lately since it was discontinued. The western digital 3 is good too, link:

The Radio Shack wireless is the best but if you cant find it the WD3 is good too.

I had my local Radio Shack manager call around to find me one of the discontinued ones. It arrived today. Ask for RS part #63-1089.

Re: digital hygrometer help.....

I bought the wireless and two monitors at Radio Shack. They work just super, salt tested dead on. Along with beads and etc. from Heartfelt Industries I am very confident.

Western Digital is a good digital hygrometer

Also, I just got in the new digital hygrometer that allows you to adjust the display during calibration! (it's about time!)

Re: digital hygrometer help.....

A quick question about digital hygrometers (I hope bumping old, topical threads isn't a faux pas):

The instructions that came with my new Western Digital III stated, in no uncertain terms, that you should NOT perform the salt test on it.

Why would they state something like this? Just trying to cover their rears in case they ship a unit that is way off?

Re: digital hygrometer help.....

I have three and salt tested all of them. No problems. RH was +/- 1 but the temp was 4-5 degrees high on all of them.

Re: digital hygrometer help.....

Obviously I'm going to salt test it anyway.. I was just completely blind-sided by that recommendation in the accompanying literature.

Sounds counterintuitive to me. What good is having a device that is used to measure something, without actually knowing how accurate said device is? I have no idea why they would care what you do with their product after you buy it. Salt test it anway. The only reason that I can think of that they say this is so you don't end up spilling salt mixture on the unit itself, which as far as I know can be pretty bad if it gets into the inner workings.
