Ever had a day where you just can't enjoy a cigar?

Haven't smoked since Saturday (combination of busy life and crappy weather), so I was really looking forward to an afternoon smoke today. Went to the cooler and weighed my options. Decided to try something new - a Perdomo Slow-Aged that I got in a CI sampler a few months back.

Sat myself down on the patio with some work, set for a nice afternoon smoke. But peeeeew - this cigar sucked. I gave it about an inch, just waiting for it to get better, but I was actually coming to dread each puff. I gave up and went in for a standby cigar - Gispert Maduro. These are a favorite of mine, so I knew I'd be able to smoke and enjoy. So much for trying something new today.

But alas ... even a favorite of mine tasted nasty. I just could not enjoy it. So in retrospect, the Perdomo was probably fine. The problem was clearly with me. Two cigars wasted. Boo.

Anyone ever have this happen? Why the heck wasn't I able to enjoy my cigar today? Ate a normal lunch, nothing else out of the ordinary. I'm not sick, so that's not it.

If I'm not liking a cigar, out it goes! And yes there are times when no cigar tastes good.(I hate it when that happens)

Yeah. There are times where I want one and start one- and if I don't enjoy it I never light another up.

There are also many times where I don't really feel like one but I start one up anyway because my friends want to smoke- and then I end up really enjoying it.

Go figure!

Yes. Sometimes I get a bit of sinus congestion that ruins the cigar smoking experience for me. Unfortunately I am not too bright and a slow learner to boot. I have smoked (and disliked) some of the world's finest cigars while in this condition. Wish I could have them back because I know the cigars were awesome and should have been saved for another day.

Sounds like you may need to give the palatte a rest. You could have a slight bug that may not be noticeably effecting you but may be throwing off your palatte. I have experienced this in the past and most recently being a couple weeks ago. I took a week off and all was well the next time I lit up.
Could be allergies also.

Re: Ever had a day where you just can't enjoy a cigar?

happened to me today.. but only with the first smoke... Decided I would light up a puros indios I had sitting for a while. Blah.. just tasted bad.. and I remembered that I didn't care for these.. so I grabbed a 5 vegas A.. its the small vitola, not sure which one, but its tasty! My only complaint is its small, so it won't last long

Re: Ever had a day where you just can't enjoy a cigar?

I feel your pain, bro.

A busy life, crappy weather...

A couple of days ago a cold front came through and the weather here is gorgeous: not too warm and low humidity. Perfect stogey weather! In addition, yesterday I received a long-delayed box of smokes I've been looking forward to trying.

So of course, this morning I wake up with a burning throat and a streaming nose. Allergies!! It would be a complete waste to even try to smoke one of my new acquisitions. (Doesn't mean I won't try of course!)

It just goes to show, you should always make the most of your opportunites to smoke a good one!

Re: Ever had a day where you just can't enjoy a cigar?

This happens to me every now and then. I'll sit down to smoke a nice cigar, one that I have always liked, and I light up and then nothing but bad taste. I believe that sometimes your palate is on, and then other times it just isn't. Strange, but rather annoying when you just lit a $15 cigar and you can't enjoy it.

Re: Ever had a day where you just can't enjoy a cigar?

it happens. sucks to waste 2 perfectly good smokes, but sometimes there's no choice. at least you tried a not-so-good smoke is still better than no smoke, i think

Re: Ever had a day where you just can't enjoy a cigar?

Sometimes you just are not into it.

Either your palate needs a break or try pairing the cigar with something to bring the flavors out. (Coffee, Scotch )

Or just take a break and try again tomm.

There's been times where I didn't feel like the cigar I was smoking and was half tempted to put it out and go for another...but then that would cigar abuse.

Re: Ever had a day where you just can't enjoy a cigar?

Getting what you know is a good cigar only to find...the buds are off or you have that tired feeling and don't need the head rush of nicotine or for some reason it seems like it had too much tar to it....or the wind was blowing to hard outside and it seemed like you lost the cigar for the wind....

I've had that happen a few times. But still, a bad day smoking a cigar is still better than a good day without one!
