Maduro Lay-Away Project

Hello jungle dwellers, here's the situation.

I've decided that over the next few weeks-months I will invest in a number of boxes of top maduro stogies and let them age long term (2-5yrs.).

The ones I have already put down are:

AF 858 FF maduro
RP vintage 1990
RP vintage 1992
AF anjejo

Am considering CAO Brasilia also.

Would like to hear what you all recommend. To really do this project right I need 3-4 more boxes to add to this list.
Please tell me what you think should be included, and your reasons.

Cheers, Larry.

Re: Maduro Lay-Away Project

How about some rocky patel edge maduro, reason being for me is that they are a great smoke I like them more than the rp vintage 90 and 92.

The Anejo will age very well. The trouble you'll have with those is finding a whole box. AF is about to have their standard limited release of all sorts of goodies so you might wanna hold off until November.

Love to know what you would think of 5 year old Brazilia. Mine never seem to last much longer than a couple of months.

I've had the ERDM Robusto Larga with a couple of years of age on them and they were excellent. Cheap too.

Re: Maduro Lay-Away Project

The 90s and 92s are a great choice. I'm smoking an aged 90 right now (I believe it's got two years on it) from the first release of the RP Chest. It's so creamy, complex, raisony, chocolately, and mildly peppery.

I agree the Edges would be awesome; regular or seconds probably wouldn't matter a whole lot. In order to age Edge's I would have to buy a box of 50. That is a cigar I can not keep in my humidor for over two weeks unless I get a quantity.

I bet the La Gloria Cubana Series R would be a great choice.

I might add some cheaper boxes too;

Sancho Panza Double Maduro
Indian Tabac Super Fuerte/Cameroon Legend
Maria Mancini Magic Mountain Maduro
Diesel

Re: Maduro Lay-Away Project

I would have to say a box of the Partagas Black Label Clasico, because I am looking at putting a box or two of these to rest for a wile myself. I am very new to this but they look like they will age quite well, and if age makes everything better, then count me in, these are already very rich and creamy. They I will second the Vote for the Mx2s and the Brazilias.

I agree, I think the padron 1964 and 1926's would be rather nice addition to your collection. You might even try including some opusX (even though I believe they are not technically maduros). From everything I have read, opusX are suppose to age extremely well.

Honestly, I would forget about everything else and just get anejos , but you already know I have a weakness for that dark oily maduro wrapper. Going to go smoke a #50 right now.

Uh -yes, montecristo, I am aware of your weakness which I also am afflicted with. The problem with the Anejo's is leaving them alone for any length of time...
The thought of 200 Anejos in a humidor of their own is mind-blowing. Why didn't I think of that???? Never too late to get started...

Thanks all for the suggestions. I have expanded my list . Larry.

Re: Maduro Lay-Away Project

i think the brazillias are a good addition to that list. they're one of my favorites. i hear they age very well, so stick a couple of those in there to let sit for a year.

Also, I second that recommendation on the 5-vegas series A. what an awesome cigar that is. i can only imagine how good it'll be with some age on it. definitely get a fiver of those to age up!

good luck with your lay-a-way

If you have the room, sock away a 50-count box of Punch Rothschild Double Maduros! They are cheap and enjoyable - and they get better with age.

Just the thought of that brings tears to my eyes. Could you imagine that, a cooler full of unopened boxes of anejos. The only cigars that can make the cuban gods frown. Damn fuentes, why don't they make more of these.

I am having serious trouble staying out of my boxes, I go into my humidor to grab something to smoke and they just scream out louder than all the others. I guess my other cigars must be intimidated, they don't have that awesome oily wrapper.

The #50 I just smoked was plain awesome. The amount of creamy white smoke is just amazing. The flavor profile is perfect. I should change my name to anejowhore. I have to start worshipping the cigar gods so I can get a couple of boxes when they come out in the next couple of months.
