I've been doing that for a long time and it works great. Between that and an open moonroof, I've never had anyone complain about the smell in my car.

Re: Smoking in your car

Great post!

I was with you all the way until you got to the cleaning, wiping down, and steam cleaning part.

But seriously, I've been thinking about getting others input on this subject for a while now, as I do most of my smoking in the car/SUV to and from work(I have a one hour commute).

What I do is crack my driver's side window and the rear driver's side window while smoking. I also use a shot of "Ozium" in each of the vents before I exit the car. It seems to me that after a day or two of not smoking the smell is gone(to me at least).

I do notice that as I've gone from a Hemmingway-based-commute to a Montecristo-based-commute, the smell is more manageable.

I'm going to try the dryer sheet/Fabreeze thing too. I'm sure my wife would rather have the car smell like a French whore than a stale cigar.

By the way, I also have one of those Csonka Bio-Freak'n-Ion-Air things. What a waste of money!

Re: Smoking in your car

thanks yet again Mark.

Since temperatures have plunged around here lately I've had 3 or 4 sessions in the car on a weekly hour and a half drive and I've been really sickened about the stale charcoal-cigarette smell that's been left behind! Wouldn't mind so much if it reaked of gar twang but stale smoke?! BLEH.

CS Encyclopedia to the rescue again, with handy search function! I look at the set of Encyclopedia Britanica at my folks' house and just laugh these days.

Re: Smoking in your car

I just smoked a short story in the car today....first cigar in my car. I had the top down though, so you can't tell a stogie was ever lit in there.

Re: Smoking in your car

Good advice.I smoke in my pickup all the time,I must have just got used to the stank. My wife borrowed it the other day, after taking it to work she called me and said she felt "unclean" after driving it. I keep telling her its not ashes and stinky stuff, its a "patina" that has taken me many years to perfect.

Re: Smoking in your car

I let my car air out regularly by leaving all the windows about 5" open and the sun roof about 12" open while it's parked (in a safe place). The smell goes away. Larry.

Re: Smoking in your car

Great post.

I borrow my dogs blazer when I want to smoke and drive. Almost all metal interior and only a little bit of vynil. Nothing for the smell to stick to.

Will have to try your process in my explorer to get the dog smell out from the puppy.
