I've been asked about my display cab...

a few times by my smoking friends, and thought I would tell the story to you guys.

I finished my basement about a year ago or so, with the main components of the floor being:
1:A home office for me. This room also functions as my defacto cigar lounge, since I can open up the window, close the door, and look out at the pond while "stinkin' up the place" The pond:
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n124/replicant_argent/IMGP0822.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>
2: A bathroom... so far unfinished.
3: A home theater. I love movies. What can I say? The wife has a mental block calling it that, she uses the phrase "family room" but we both know what it is.

While in the building and planning process, I tried to come up with a few different ideas for a wet bar, and the wall next to the sliding door was just about the right size, also backing up to the bathroom, for plumbing access. I went to HOM furniture and in the scratch and dent area, found the upper cabinet to a china cabinet, touch 3 level lighting included. The best part about it... 99.00. I thought I could mount it on the wall, and with the dark wood, the sliding doors, and the mirror back, it would look like a cool "pub" kind of bar. Well, I ended up getting these cabinets........CHEAP. Beech, custom, I paid 300.00 at an auction.<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n124/replicant_argent/IMGP0808.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>
Usually, cabs like this run about 200 bucks a foot, and I got about 6 feet worth... I did the math.... well, what would you do? I figured the upper cab wouldn't look good with the lower cabs, and jackhammering the floor for a floor drain and plumbing would have been cost prohibitive for code, so the slider went unused. I like the beer fridge instead of the sink anyway.
The other side of the room:
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n124/replicant_argent/IMGP0809.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>
That left poor little ol' me with a spare cabinet. The sliders dont seal in humidity, and to retrofit it to a giant humi is............... ahhhh crap..... that might be a good idea, dammit. But for now, it sits on top of my cheap Menards 14 foot long "desk"
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n124/replicant_argent/IMGP0818-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>
The future plans are to get it mounted up on the wall, so I can fit my office stereo and printer/ fax underneath it. But that may have to wait to see how much work it is to retrofit the lights to nice cool LED pucks to keep heat down, find some gasketing to seal the doors when closed, figure out a fan system, grrrrrr, I hate you guys with your fancy ass cabinet humis giving me ideas!!!

Mine is a corner of the garage w/ a table, chair & 13" TV, oh yeah, a space heater.

Looks like your wife let you have the basement as your own domain.

Re: I've been asked about my display cab...

Nice, one day I'll have a setup that's at least half as nice. You got the whole basement, I have my whole tiny porch, including during the wonderful winter months. (it snows in my winter, it snows a lot). ... shiver ... shiver... puff... shiver..... you get the idea.

Re: I've been asked about my display cab...

Nothing here about cigars in the house but your theater reminds me of mine.. Same paint color. I love that color of red and it's nice and dark for a theater room! Nice job. Nice to see another HT buff here. The best sound I've heard in a movie to date has been Master and Commander. Those canon shots just about made my couch move! The airplane scene in Pearl Harbor is next.

I'm gonna wish I had a warm place to smoke before long... I'll have to buy some kind of jacket I can stink up I guess.

Re: I've been asked about my display cab...

same projector, paid about 1400 for it a few years ago.. now you can get a HD pj for damn near the same, 4805 is a good pj, though. I did an rf uni remote, so all the electronics but the speakers and the pj are in another room. Looks nice and clean.
