France to ban smoking in pulic

Hey any chance to beat on the French, and I was stationed there for almost 4 months -

To paraphrase General Patton - "I would rather have a German Panzer division in front of me, than a division of French behind and supporting me. At least I know what I am in for with the Germans."

Count on this also being banned. If you smoke anywhere that children will be, might be, have been, might think about being, you will be considered guilty of contributing to the possibilities of a mirade of potential health issues (as many as can be made up to sound legitimate), and you will be sent to jail for endangering a minor.

Houston, TX- the fourth largest city in America- is about to vote on a city wide smoking ban for all public areas. It's already in effect in restaurants- now they want to spread it to bars, clubs etc..

I'm glad I live in the outskirts just outside city limits. But most of the places I see concerts are inside city limits!

We'll have a national smoking ban before too long, just wait and see. It makes sense (not to us, but we are the minority). We banned online gambling, so why wouldn't be smoking inside nationally? Several states have already done so...

banning smoking in public... yeah, the French and only the French deserve to be called retards for doing that...

Here in Cali, you already can't smoke in and around public owned buildings (i.e. government buildings, schools, etc) except in designated area... we've already banned smoking in all restaurants (in Cali)... previously friendly neighbors get up in arms when you smoke in your own backyard (my own ecperience)... don't forget those taunting ash trays still left on some seats when you are flying domestically...

...and frankly that's fine with me. I know while I'm smoking, I can hardly see the reason for the fuss, but it is pervasive (even tho I'm outside)... and while, personally, I think cigar smoke smells nice, more do not. and it's more than just a smell preference... there is a percieved danger. parents with kids know this all too well... according to them, you are subjecting them to POISON!!! sure, you can take steps to minimize it, blow away from them, not smoke as they pass by, etc... but short of not lighting up in the first place there is nothing that makes is okay. and don't try to argue that it's not that bad, or, that they aren't getting it in high enough concentrations... yeah, you can decide that for yourself... but don't think you can make that decision for others... it's like saying a little arsenic in you food probably won't kill you...

I'm of the mind to not fight that... I love Indian food, but when my neighbor cooks it, it stinks up MY house... luckily they don't do it all the time... and the smell goes away... since I am pretty sure that there is nothing harmfull in the smell, it doesn't bother me that much... If I thought that there was something bad in the fumes, I'd protest in an instant especialy since I have a toddler in the house...

I'm sure smoking is the same way... I simply don't smoke in public... I don't want random people burping up lunch in my face or letting loose a wet one while I'm nearby, so... I don't light up in the presence of non-smokers... dunno doesn't seem so hard. but it is... some people see it as a right to not have to be subjected to smoke... and if they wanna make a law to stop the inconsiderate ones... that's fine with me. If farting in public got out of hand, I'd want a law against it too.

the assumption being that smog is everywhere in cali, which it is not... even here in metropoltan SoCal, the more fortunate live in relatively smog free conditions... smog tends to get blown to inland areas and gets traped up against tall mountains concentrating it in some areas while other areas are pretty much smog free...

and we fight "smog" because we don't want to return to the days when smog allerts were a common thing, when we couldn't use rubberbands because they deteriorated and snapped in a couple days, when just breathing was an issue, when people died in greater numbers because of respiratory problems...

so... now that the air is clearer, Californians can concentrate on other annoyances... I guess smoking is one of them.

dizzam... I wonder if that could happen here in my hood?

some of my neighbors just stop by and tell me that it's getting bad... some of them are smokers themselves.

Oh well... I'm sure there are plenty of people that are bothered by it that aren't stopping by to tel me...

I just have a couple Ionic breeze thingies set up in my smoking spot outside... I never thought those things really did anything, but it has cut down on the complaints.

It's coming here in America. One way or another, we will be banned to our homes. Then they will find reasons to ban smoking in our own homes, in our own back yards. America is going crazy, time for me to bail, how are things looking in the Carribean right now?
