OK, so I have saturday night poker game every week - and it's always a fine time to smoke a good stick or three.

Well, every weekend, the same knuckle-headed friend that knows JACK about cigars sees fit to quote "HELLBOY" (the movie) where the guy chastises hellboy for lighting his cigar with a zippo lighter...that you ALWAYS light a cigar with wooden matches to preserve the flavor (ever notice how he engulfs the foot of the cigar IN the flame....d'oh!)

So, of course I have to say: You've been watching too much "Hellboy"

ME- Lighting my Camacho Maduro robusto with my triple flame tiger torch.

HIM: "No dude...wooden matches, EVERYTIME."

ME: "Dude...seriously...you gotta trust me on this one."

HIM: "Yea...like I trusted you on that last cigar you gave....your cigars are waaaaay too acidic"

(referring to a nice LVH robusto I tossed him a few weeks ago, where he used a ZIPPO lighter and ENGULFED the entire foot in the flame, without letting the lighter burn for a few seconds to get all the
gas ordor outta the wick)

ME: "Dude...if you knew how to smoke a cigar...I can teach you...I'll even provide the smokes"

HIM: "No, no, no...that crap you smoke is just too acidic...you need to start buying Macanudo's..their the best....Portofino - can't go wrong."

ME: "Yea, then I'll get you a wine sprintzer to go with your skirt too!"

I'm just b!tching is all...but has this happened to anyone yet - where someone who is obviously referencing that movie points out how you're "incorrectly" lighting your stick?

Just remember that you will never convince him that he is wrong. Just keep smoking they way you know best and make him provide his own cigars and lighting devices from now on.

You should've seen me lighting other peoples cigarettes with my torch on Saturday. First of all you can't see the flame in the sunshine and secondly I probably should have turned it down a notch. I didn't burn anyone, but those cigarettes sure do burn fast

wait. so are all the things we see in the media false? cuase that movie said use wooden matched but ive read a lot of you guys use torch lighters. dont you know that you arent preserving the flavor. you have precious amounts of flavor being totally lost. im starting a preserve the flavor fund. send all money towards flavor preservation to me. pm for the address.

Next time give him a JdN Antano, but put a Macanudo band on it. Make sure you encourage him to nub it...

I love my wife, but she's usually not very supportive of my habit (It's unhealthy, you smell, and so on). But sometimes she try's, like the time Hellboy was on TV. She immediatly ran out and bought a case of wooden matches to improve the flavor of my smokes.

Here's the rub, she won't let me smoke indoors because of the odor, so I have to smoke outside. I live 10 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, so there is a constant breeze and I have to go through a box of those things just to heat the foot and get it lit. God bless her but I've taken to sneaking out a butane, with my matches, just to keep marital happiness.
