Virginia Tobacco...
I did a search and not too much came up on this topic so I figured I would ask the pros. I know with pipe tobacco there is are virginia blends that I would assume come from Virginia but I have never heard of Virginia tobacco being used in cigars. I know Conn. tobacco is used, which also comes from the US. So I guess my question is, are there cigars that use the virginia tobaccos and if not why?

Re: Virginia Tobacco...
Virginia is one of the top produces of tobacco in the US - and the tobacco grown is normally either Burley or Virginia Flue - both of which are used for cigarettes. Burley is also used for chewing and snuff.
Different types of tobacco are grown for cigars - none of which are primairly grown here for that purpose - i.e. cash crop. I'm sure someone is growing something for local rollers etc - it's just not large scale. Also note that Burley is grown most everywhere - through out Kentucky, etc. That's what my family raised in Indiana. Ron |

Re: Virginia Tobacco...
See I knew you guys would have a good answer for me. Skinsfan I did notice the vast amount of tobacco grown down in VA when I went down there last year, which is why it didn't add up to me.
My dad just recently moved down to VA, so when he was scoping out what it was like I took the trip. It's a VERY pretty area. He ended up getting situated outside of Roanoke and I think maybe after the fall semester is done I might take a road trip down there to visit. Thanks guys. I'll score one more up to the knowledge that the CS members have to offer. ![]() |

Re: Virginia Tobacco...
Well from what you've said about Connecticut , the Muniemaker line has been made with tobacco grown entirely in Connecticut for over 115 years . As for cigars made in Virgina from Virginian tobacco , I haven't found anything definitive . If there is an Amish community there then maybe they would have some , I believe I read somewhere that the Amish in Pennsylvania grow and roll their own cigars for sale to the visiting public . Good luck .
