Someone educate me on Gurkhas

Hey all,
I seem to see a lot written about them and CI always seems to have some sort of a Gurkha deal going on. I've never tried them. Which is the heaviest/spiciest? Are they really that good?

Thanks
Rich

I wouldn't have posted if I hadn't done a search first.

I found no indication of strength or spice, especially compared to other cigars.

Re: Someone educate me on Gurkhas

Relatively new cigar brand for US market, (<10years)

Contract cigars made for k. hansotia company, by torano cigar co. As with most contract cigars, the cigars are put in the premium or super-premium category, due to the company having to purchase and market the cigar and not having vertical intergration in the whole process.

A plethora of different line extensions, many made for CI. Having so many lines makes it hard to pinpoint single charaterstics within the brand, each is different, from mild to full bodied, etc.

Great packaging due to the president of the companys work in India I believe, trading in jewlerey boxes, watch boxes and the like.

Do a search in this forum and you will find a lot about Gurkhas and K. Hansotias. In the meantime, I recommend the K. Hansotia Gold edition, it is very tasty and complex. They are practically all good for different reasons, it depennds on what you like. Many reviews have been written about them in this forum.

K. Hansotia triple X
Gurkha Centurian XX
Masters select
And I have recently heard about the G3 although I haven't had one yet.

You can get alot of input from others who have smoked this line. The best thing to do; however, is to try a few different ones and judge for yourself. C-bid may still have some nice mixed samplers, from time to time, and often, the price is right. My favorites are the Class Regents and Legends. More like a "sweet spice" in my opinion.

Re: Someone educate me on Gurkhas

I've only had one, a Nepalese Warrior, I believe this is a Class Regent like Blake Lockhart mentioned and I second the recommendation, and sweet spice categorization, but not "too" sweet. Good cigar. I'm expecting an order any day now

i agree... there are so many so you just have to get some samplers and give them a whirl

As a reader of this thread. Thanks for the info. I always enjoy hearing about the brands, and those that produce them. Good info!

Re: Someone educate me on Gurkhas

I would characterize most Gurkha products as medium-full bodied and full flavored. Generally very tastey cigars, there is a good bit of variance within the brand. I would suggest starting with the class regents, the lower end gurkhas seem to be a bit more hit or miss and the higher end ones (legends etc.) need a fair bit of ageing.

Addressing your questions more directly, I would have to say the class regent is the heaviest Gurkha I've had while the nepalese warrior is probably the spiciest although spiciness does not seem to be the goal of the blendersand I suspect this was largely due to youth. IMO, they are that good but not worth MSRP.

This is one of my favorite brands, enjoy sampling their offerings!
