Re: Is this the answer?
completely enclose the room in rubber except for the entry door and exit window. You need to get this fixed ASAP so we can play some cards and herf.

Re: Is this the answer?
A solution might be to intsall a couple of bathroom fans, the quiet ones that move some air and directly vent them outdoors. If your in the basement, then two fans with hose venting directly throught the boxsill should be sufficient to remove smoke. Keep the hose short or at a large diameter otherwise you'll loose much of the fans drawing power. If you really want to draw some air, keep the pipe/hose short and use 6" diameter.
Good Luck. |

Re: Is this the answer?
god this is getting complicated-here's what worked for me
benefits:1)no heat loss 2)compared to commercial units, low cost 3)from the sound of it, you can do the work yourself 4)fans & parts readily available here' what ya need: 1)400 to 600 cfm SQUIRREL CAGE exhaust fan (closer to 600 cfm is better) 2)6" METAL ductork 3)large box (closet also works, i used refridgerator box sealed w/duct tape) 4)ionic or ozne generator next size up from whatever size box u use all this can be hidden underneath counter w/cabinets or made to use as table locate blower as far away from entry door as you can attach 6" metal ductwork, taping ALL seams run ducts short length to box/closet (make SURE box/closet is airtight install ionizer/ozone generator in box/closet install exhaust in box/closet-start w/4" exhaust, may have to enlarge later set system on timers, turn on when smoking, run for 1/2 hr after what happens is that blower pulls smoke into box/closet where due to equal or small opening than duct work, odor is neutralized-due to force of blower, air (& heat!) are put back into room w/o odor you MAY have to go w/8" duct coming off blower & 6" exhaust due to size of room-look for decibel rating on blower or ask to hear in operation-noise insulate entire system, like rubber bushings under blower bolts, taping all connections, rubber under ductwork straps, etc.-if volume of neutralized smoke exhausted back into room is unnacceptable, open window slightly this has worked for me in past years w/something similiar, though the consequences for it not working would've been much worse that the wife bitching!-blower & ozonator available at hydorponics shop or online! hope it helps-it gave me a chance to dump some what is now useless knowledge to me (anything in CAPITAL LETTERS is improtant)

Re: Is this the answer?
I just ordered one of these after renting one for the weekend. It worked great in a room that was 14 x 22:
http://www.air-filtrationsystems.com/view/180/275/ Cost was a little over $600, but the thing works great. Only downside was with 7 of us smoking I had to turn it on high and it was loud enough to have to raise your voice some. But normally, it's just me or one/two guys so low should work very nicely. |

Re: Is this the answer?
Have you looked into the sharp plasmacluster? Its little pricey but much cheaper than what your looking at. It does an excellent job at home.

Re: Is this the answer?
OK I am officially whoring up this thread now, but here is a link to AHAM (Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers). You can search for certain criteria and one of them just happens to be tobacco smoke.

My problem is odor escaping the room while I'm smoking. I think the solution is in the art of balancing room pressure and elimination of leaks. To do this, I am first going to tape off the cold air return and heating vents. Even tho they're already closed, the action of air moving over the vent can cause a suction. Then I'm going to play around with heated makeup air from outside. This will create air circulation completely separate from the house and can be adjusted to optimize exhaust air flow. Odor in the room is fairly easily controlled with the smoke eater candle. Will let you know what I come up with in the next 7-10 days or so.
