And that's what they are, exceptions, because a lot of $10+ sticks do NOT merit the price. Those worth the cash are Padron Ani's, especially the 1926 maddies; Ashton VSG's; Opus X; Fuente Anejos.

There are some special releases which qualify as well, like the limited release Litto Gomez Diez, the 7x47 beauty...you rarely see a cigar that beautiful that lives up to its looks. Phenomenal smoke, even at $12+.

The Padron 40th also qualifies, even at the mind-numbing price of $25 a stick. It's worth having at least once, and if you could afford to stash a few for a few years, I'm certain that you'd be rewarded with a once-in-a-lifetime smoke.

And I'll say it again - Tatuaje is worth a good look as it is worth its price.

I picked up a Tatuaje Havana VI Victorias along with the Ashton and Padron.

You might want to try one of the higher line Tatuaje's which are outstanding.

Tatuaje Unicos
Cojonu 2003 or 2006
Tatuaje Reserva SW
Tatuaje Reserva J21

The Tatuaje Havana VI is good, but not as good as the above - IMHO -

Hey, if you are looking for "super premiums" and you are wanting to try the corona format, it is hard to beat either the No. 3 or No. 4 Don Carlos. I think that for the price, the No. 3 Don Carlos is one of the best cigars made on any island. However, if you are going to limit yourself to the two brands mentioned, I rated the Padron 64 Monarca that I tried at 92.6 points, and the Ashton VSG Illusion at 93.4 points. I can't see going wrong with either. (In case you have to know, the average rating of the No. 3's I rated so far is 98 points).

You might have just made me drive all the way back to Serious just to pick up a No. 3. We'll see how my days goes

i deffinitely would go against the trend and advice the vsg. the '64 tend to be a little boring and monotonous, while full of flavor and very smooth. the vsg's to me offer a lot more complexity. just becareful on how you treat them, the wrapper is very sensible. i'm in the mood to light one up now.

I appreciate it man- that seems to be how the responses seem to go although most still say Padron.

Serious Cigars in TX? if so your sooo lucky you can drive there! i order from Ron all the time!

As for the debate, i think this is more a DOminican Republic vs Nicaragua deal. True the VSG isnt a puro, but ultimatley its blended to be a very DR profiled smoke- creamy with spices. The Padron, sweeter with the chocolate/coffee vibe. I always like Nicaragua

Padron, Pepin, Padilla, Tatuaje, Perdomo & CAO Vs. Ashton, Fuente, Davidoff, La Flor Dominicana and pretty much Altadis! I choose Nicaragua by far. Mostly for Pepin and his many prodigys but originally for Padron and my 'first love' the CAO Brazilia. La Flor is the only DOminican brand i truley fancey beyond the Fuente Don Carlos and Hemmingway lines
