I dont think Pepin will be another Fuente. His operations are smaller and his factories are in Miami and Nicaragua, whereas Fuente is in the DR export only zone. Pepin's higher end cigars already command a premium price, and there is a limit as to what people will pay.

For example, an Opus X Petite Lancero is at 9.95 MSRP. Pepins Tatuaje Especiales are only $1.00 less. I cant see paying more than that for either an Opus X OR the Tatuaje.

I'm may be worried for nothing but, I enjoy his blends along with the throngs of other BOTL's and I just figured we may see an increase in the near future as the boom returns. BTW, I've got a six-pak of Especiales coming at $9.75/stick!

Re: Pepin popularity and price increase?

As a person who visits 80+ B&M stores, JPG is not well known outside of the our little online community. The majority of retail customers as well as store owners still don't know who or what his cigars are. His operations are still very, very, small and cater to a very small population of cigar smokers.

As for being another Fuente..... "Only Fuente is Fuente."

That being said, JPG does make and blend some very tasty cigars but they probably don't appeal to a mass market.

Re: Pepin popularity and price increase?

I read Tatuaje Especiales some where yummy yummy yummy! I have one of those left, my b&m doesn't stock that size, I need more but I don't know where to get em

edit: I don't think that Pepin will start "collectable" items like Fuente, Fuentes are good but that part about them sucks.

Scottie, do you remember who setup that Pepin deal from CigarKing? I seem to have forgotten? I wonder how many people you pushed down the Pepin slope? Well done.

I was at my local B&M a couple of weeks ago and they had already raised the prices on the Tatuajes. I guess they started getting them from a different distributor instead of directly from Pete Johnson and this was the cause of the higher prices (almost a full dollar per stick).

Although I find it pretty amazing, I have to agree with JDC20. In my quest for Anejos, I have actually asked several of the smaller B&M's if they had any Pepin's or Tatuajes and several had never heard of them. I have no doubt we are exposed to a lot more cigars by browsing this site 8-10 hours a day.

Don't know where to get them? Here are a couple of places:

http://www.canyoncigar.com/cart/prod...g_NAME=Tatuaje

http://www.towercigars.com/cigars.php?column=97

http://www.smokingpipes.com/Cigars/Tatuaje/index.cfm

Might check out www.leafandale.com as well.

Re: Pepin popularity and price increase?

I have no doubt that we will see price increases in the future, but it will be largely due to the continuing erosion of the US dollar, and it will be an across-the-board increase that will effect everything we buy.

I doubt that Pepin will increase his prices much beyond what economics dictates.

That is how I see it, anyway.
