Re: 2006 Anejo MSRP Poll

Wow, I can't really respond to the poll as it only allows one choice.

I experienced the following this anejo season, I consider MSRP anything that is within a dollar or so of what is written down on the price list:

Purchased/Available at MSRP w/o limits - I found one shop like this, but they only had one type of anejo by the time I contacted them.

Purchased/Available at MSRP with limits - found several shops like this, most of the time you had to buy something else as well, like tampasweetheart, elfumador or seriouscigars.

Purchased/Available above MSRP w/o limits - found one or two, but the prices were really bad at these stores and I didn't buy any.

Purchased/Available above MSRP with limits - found a couple of places that fell into this category, where the prices were 2-4 dollars about MSRP, which is still ok for me.

I bought very few from my local B&M do to CA taxes, they were selling them at MSRP plus the 46% tobacco tax. They had a limit of two per customer per day.

Just as an example, I probably bought the sharks from six different places this season and paid on average about $12 a piece for them. So some places were selling them at MSRP, others were slightly higher. I did not pay over $15 for any anejo this season and the majority of them were less than $11-12 dollars. The most expensive ones were from my local B&M with CA taxes, I figured why not, at least I didn't have to pay for shipping and I actually got to pick them out.

Re: 2006 Anejo MSRP Poll

I also had mixed experiences -

A local B&M had the 48's and 49's at or very close to MSRP, no limits listed. I picked up four from them and left some for other smokers.

I also was able to get Sharks from Grants close to MSRP, but there were limits (2).

Two Cam Sharks were acquired from various Holts samplers.

Picked up four additional 49's at 2.00 above MSRP with limits at a different B&M.

And yes, there were the B&M's that had Sharks at 25.00 - 35.00 each ( ). I dont know whether to ignore that they are charging those prices and move on, or be upset and refrain from patronizing them in the future. Either way, a markup that big is a real slap in the noggin to a BOTL that knows his MSRP's.

Re: 2006 Anejo MSRP Poll

Hmmmmm....

One of those things I will have to remember when/if I do a second poll; check the box that allows voting in more than one category. Sorry about that guys, I saw the option, did not think long enough about it before I initiated the poll, and now, time limit has past to change the poll option. Live and learn. However, I actually find your comments more enlightening than a simple poll vote might have provided. So, thanks for the in-depth details to those that hit multiple B & M's with varying experiences between the different shops.

Right now, interesting enough, it looks like almost an even four-way split, on the "available" categories! Which tells me that 25% of you got lucky enough to find these at or very near MSRP, with NO limit to the number purchased (though not a large enough sampling to actually mean anything, statistically speaking! - sorry to muddy up the jungle with math talk)

It is against Fuentes rules for an authorized dealer to sell at over MSRP.

Mostly its the little guys who do so, if you are caught by Fuente selling at over MSRP you are cut off is what I have been told by my local guy.

Im not sure how true that is Ryan. There is an authorized dealer
in Austin that always sells them over MSRP ($3-$6 over) and nothing has happened to them. Not totally disputing what you are saying because it could be true and they just havent been caught.

I cant complain about them too much, they let my wife buy a whole box and other places we have been limit you to 1 or 2 sticks of each kind.

That is the Fuente policy, however, I've never seen or heard of it being enforced. Several companies have policies like this: CAO,Oliva,Ashton,Davidoff,Cusano all have something like this in place and I have heard of and seen a couple of them use the rule at their discretion. Mostly just to get the attention of the distributor. But I know of 2 B&M's who lost their accounts.

Zero Anejo's in my 4 local B&M's this December.

From reading y'all's reviews, I'm ready to try one!

Re: 2006 Anejo MSRP Poll

I buy mine at MSRP.

I bought about 12 singles this year. Didn't buy any boxes dur to the mold rumors about them. Plus I have a few boxes stashed away.

But nothing over MSRP for Anejos, Opus, ESGs, or any Fuente Product.

Re: 2006 Anejo MSRP Poll

I was able to get Anejos at 3 locations , Holt's were priced at msrp but had a limit of 2 per day , 1-B&M had them at about $2.00 above msrp and no limit , another B&M had them marked up a little less than double with no limit . The 2 B&M's I used are in NJ and Holt's is in PA , so I'm not real sure of the difference in tax rates , NJ is always higher then PA when it comes to cigar prices . I bought most of them at Holt's this year . Think I'm gonna dig one out and burn it right now !

Re: 2006 Anejo MSRP Poll

No limits this year, MSRP + Ct tax..
Got 15- 46's and 12-50's(box split Ma.) 8, 77's
Other then the 50's the 46s and 77's were bought at the same time. Along with the Opus Robusto tin 3 pack.. No mold on any of mine.
I do a lot of business with this particular B&M on a weekly basis. I'm not sure if others were restricted however.
