Re: coolerdor...question,please?

I have a couple of these and use them to store my Honduran cigars. I don't use the trays as they take up too much room. I simply store any singles in one of my old cedar boxes. I use a couple of nylon feet with a half pound of 65% climmax beads in each one and put them in wherever they fit. I prefer 65% over 70% beads. I line the bottom and the lower sides of the coolerdor with some cedar. Simply break up some old cigar boxes for this purpose. The fuller you keep the coolerdor with boxes the easier it is to maintain a consistent humidity.

Wash the new coolerdor out before using. If you don't have a lot of boxes to start with just line the coolerdor as above with old boxes. To season the coolerdor get a spray bottle and put distilled water in it and spritz (don't drown) the old boxes, put in your beads and a salt tested hygrometer and close it up. When it has leveled off at 65% or 70% fill it up. This leveling off can take a few days or longer and maybe an additional seasoning or two. Be patient! Remove the old box liners as your coolerdor becomes fuller.

When the humidity gets lower this winter spritz the climmax beads with the distilled water if the humidity starts to drop below your preferred setting.

Good luck!
