Hello from a new member, and need suggestions on a new humidor.

Hello, I happened upon these forums by chance, and immediately registered myself and started posting. I love cigars and love the lifestyle that surrounds them. Been smoking them since I was 15 and living in Sweden (My first two cigars were a cuban Monti No.2 and a cuban Cohiba Siglo III). I've brought a small army of my friends into the world of fine cigars and they are all better for it (My nickname is Fidel). From what I've read you all seem like a good crowd and I'm really glad I found this forum.

Now on to the real reason for my post. I need to get another humidor. My 50ct Sao Paolo has done me well up to this point, but I feel the urge to buy another, larger, humidor. I'm looking for a good humidor ~100-150ct. and was wondering if you all had any suggestions.

I just got the Gettysburg. Nice piece of furniture. Only a little over a hundred. That'll keep your singles ready for smoking. Get a cooler for all other boxes.

Mo, how the heck did you transport all those cigars cross country when you just moved?

Yea, did I mention I am an 18 year old college studen? I have money, but not enough to toss over a grand at a humidor. Not yet anyways.

Used 6 medium sized, 4 large sized (U-Haul) moving boxes. Each one was lined with a heavy guage (3 mil thick) trash liner. When full, I put multiple twists on the trash liner to close it & make it air tight. Tried to find an industrial sized vacuum-hermetic sealer but no luck. Still, the cigars survived the trip real well and they've been smoking just fine.

Just as an aside, several of the boxes had my Little Havana Dgital Hygrometer (I have 4) packed with the cigars. The temperature low on the trip was 62 but the high was 94 (YIKES!!, but it did go through desert country). The humidity high hit 82% (Probably when the temperature went down since the bags were very tightly twisted & maintained good integrity), but the humidity low hit 54%. Still, nothing seemed over dry when I first opened the moving boxes & made inspections. But, I am dreading that the heat may have incubated the dreaded beetle eggs, so I'm being extra vigilant & on the lookout for bugs.

New85,

If you don't need the eye appeal of a humidor, a coolerdor works JUST as well. A $25 cooler and a humidifier, a few empty cigar boxes and you're good to go. Mine holds 20 boxes, maintains a rock-steady 65% RH and I haven't had to add PG solution in almost 6 months.

Yo NewGen

Check out Thompson Cigars. They suck for buying cigars but they have great humidor prices. I have the 300 count humidor from them and it works really well. The only thing is the Humidifier that it comes with are not that good so get new ones. Also go to Radio Shack and get a digital hygrometer.

Welcome to the jungle. I agree with the other recommendations you've already been given, especially Bargain Humidors.

Re: Hello from a new member, and need suggestions on a new humidor.

I like the Limited Reserve and Westminster at Thompson Cigar. I'm kind of debating between getting one of those or just using my Sao Paolo for my in-the-near-future smokes and using a cooler for long-term storage.
