Has anyone out there heard anything about the new cigar magazine JR is advertising on their website? I have visited the magazine’s website and there is very little info there. I figured some gorillas may have some inside info on this.

I hope you get some responses...I'm curious now too. It'd be great to have a magazine to give CA a run for it's money. I'd like to read about cigars...not Lamborghinis.

I got the JR catalog today and saw the blurb about the new cigar magazine. Maybe I read it too fast, but it seems to me they said something like "cigar smokers also like to read about cars, golf, etc. etc. so we'll include stories about those topics as well..." This would make the magazine little better than Cigar Aficionado so I hope I just misread. I think they also said they'd send cigars out to subscribers who in turn would rate the cigars for the magazine.

Maybe this is the time for a Top 25 Cigar Mag? I would support that idea. A reasonable viewpoint on cigars from common people rather than the rich 2% of the population. Articles on "cheap drinks", "used cars", "pinball" and the sort. Just a thought....

Why is JR pushing this magazine? Not only is the Altadis controlled JR Cigars aggressively promoting this publication but a buddy of mine pointed out that the cigar samplers they are offering with a 2 year subscription are all Altadis brands. While I would certainly like to see an alternative to CA (Marv lost my respect after the article on buying your own island and when he changed the title from CIGAR aficionado to cigar AFICIONADO) something is fishy about this new rag.

As a new reader of CA I would have to agree that the magazine is heavily focused on the cigar "lifestyle" and not cigars. The first thing I do is look at the reviews and read the latest news in the industry, usually 1 or 2 pages.

Now CA is offering the Cigar Insider for a fee of $49 a year. Isn't this what they should be offering to all readers/subscribers all along?! Reviews and news of CIGARS!

I am sticking to this forum and Top 25 Cigar from now on, for free.

I would rather listen to my fellow BOTL for reviews and information.

Amen to that!! I never subscribed to CA, but I used to pick up a copy every once in a while. That stopped when I bought a copy that had more information on $12000 watches and $3000 handmade shirts than it had on cigars. I think a cigar magazine that was actually about cigars would be great, but I'm betting that the new mag from JR/Altadis will be just another marketing ploy.

I would like to have cigar magazine that wasn't aimed at the bill gates genre. I want one that when it speaks of bass fishing doesn't start with me renting a private plane in antigua to remote spot in venezuela.
