Thumbs up Rocky Patel 1992 Vintage Maduro

Hey all it's Dwaynes cuz, i thought i'd just make my first review on the Rocky Patel 1992 Vintage Maduro. I was amazed at this smoke, it was smooth and had a great flavor, never had re-lite and never became harsh all the way to the last puff. I think its a must try for anyone who thinks of variety as a plus in cigars, kamikaiguys suggestion to have this cigar was a push in the right direction.

I really like these cigars. Although I prefer the 92s, the 90s are really good as well.

Cowboy,

my son had a RP vintage yesterday and said it was DA BomB !!! I can't wait to try them. Are they expensive ? My son gets them for free he works in the cigar business so he is not paying.

Re: Rocky Patel 1992 Vintage Maduro

I prefer the '90 to the '92 - its noticably stronger.

A cigar chain in the Dallas area (Sir Elliot's) has in stock now what they have labeled their "vitage reserve". Its an unbanded unoboxed $4/stick store brand cigar. I wouldn't have thought of buying one until I noticed that a clever person had decided to place them on the shelf directly below the $8.50 Rocky Patels. It was clear as day they are the same cigar. I have had it in the coolidor for 2 weeks now (their humidor is too wet, was 73% when I was in there last week). I am probably going to break down this week and confirm by taste what my eyes told me.

The RPs are average smokes in the $8.50 range IMO; I would probably buy a AF DC or a 64 PAM Principe instead. However at $4/stick the closest competition would be more costly Onyx Reserve and Oliva Grand Maduros. I have a feeling I am going to be smoking a lot of Sir Elliot's Vintage Reserves.

This cigar has not helped my stogie budget. Ah well, most great things require some sacrifice. I have found I usually prefer the 1992 over th 1990.

Re: Rocky Patel 1992 Vintage Maduro

I just came off the patio with my first Patel '92 freshly on my clothes and couldn't agree more with what you guys are saying!

A GREAT smoke... but not one I can afford to buy with regularity. (I have less than $50 a month to play with)

Can anyone recommend a similar cigar in the say..... cheap range....

I know.. I know.. you get what you pay for.... but I'd like to get more than I pay for....

I haven't really heard anyone say this yet but it REALLY reminded me of the PAM '64.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

BTW... I've been working long days and this is the first smoke I've had in about 3-4 days... so I might have just been impressed with the smoke, relaxation, and beer!

MoD

I would try the Calros Torano Signature. Sub $5.00 off the internet Smoke. I think it sort of similar to the Rocky Patel. Also the Exodus 1959 Silver should be similar also but sweeter.

Update:

I have lots of both. Smoked lots of both (got em for $ 2-3) Up until recently I liked the 92's better. The 90's are growing on me as they spend more time in the humi. CLose but I think they are nudgin ahead.

Re: Rocky Patel 1992 Vintage Maduro

I agree with DaKlugs here. I had a 92 Robusto that I really taught was a first class smoke and bought several 92 and 90 Robuto's this summer.

Aging has really improved both, but I'm leaning toward the 90's lately.

Personally at $5 to $8 I think there a good buy.
