VA RESIDENTS - ACT NOW! (Proposed Smoking Bans!)

(notified by Frankluke on BOTL)

Recently, the following bills have been filed in an attempt to restrict smoking of cigars and other tobacco products within the Commonwealth:

<a href="http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?ses=071&amp;typ=bil&amp;val=hb2245" target="_blank">1. House Bill No. 2245 from Delegate Algie T. Howell, Jr. - Democrat of Norfolk</a> <br>
<a href="http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?ses=071&amp;typ=bil&amp;val=hb2689" target="_blank">2. House Bill No. 2689 from Delegate Glenn G. Oder - Republican of Newport News </a><br>
<a href="http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?ses=071&amp;typ=bil&amp;val=hb2422" target="_blank">3. House Bill No. 2422 from Delegate Morgan H. Griffith - Republican of Salem </a><br>
<a href="http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?ses=071&amp;typ=bil&amp;val=hb2067" target="_blank">4. House Bill No. 2067 from Delegate John A. Cosgrove - Republican of Chesapeake </a><br>
<a href="http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?ses=071&amp;typ=bil&amp;val=hb1952" target="_blank">5. House Bill No. 1952 from Delegate Harvey B. Morgan - Republican of Gloucester </a><br>
<a href="http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?ses=071&amp;typ=bil&amp;val=hb2005" target="_blank">6. House Bill No. 2005 from Delegate Vincent F. Callahan, Jr. - Republican of McLean </a><br>
<a href="http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?ses=071&amp;typ=bil&amp;val=sb1161" target="_blank">7. Senate Bill No. 1161 from Senator Brandon J. Bell. II - Republican of Roanoke </a>

Simpy speaking, House Bills 2245, 2689, 1952, and 2005 need to be defeated, along with Senate Bill 1161. Each of the above bills from the House of Delegates has been assigned to the House General Laws Committee, and their Sub-Committee #3, which defeated Senator Bell’s legislation last year. Senator Bell’s 2007 legislation has been assigned to the Senate Education & Health Committee, just as last year.

Get used to it. If they don't pass now, they'll be reintroduced in some other form Next yr. There is no Common Sense in Government anymore.

I don't think you're going to accomplish much e-mailing Virginia's U.S. senators or members of the House of Representatives. If you go to this page -- http://legis.state.va.us/ -- you can get information about contacting your state representatives who will be considering this legislation.

Yup, that's what I did. Found out who my specific reps were (they call it something different here in the "commonwealth") and emailed those two.
