Crazy Lawyer/Cigar story

I don't know if any of it is true, but I found this while doing a search for something else and thought it ineresting even if it wasn't true.

A Charlotte, NC, lawyer purchased a box of very rare and expensive cigars, then insured them against fire among other things. Within a month having smoked his entire stockpile of these great cigars and without yet having made even his first premium payment on the policy, the lawyer filed claim against the insurance company.

In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost "in a series of small fires."

The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason: that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion.

The lawyer sued....and won!

In delivering the ruling the judge agreed with the insurance company that the claim was frivolous. The Judge stated nevertheless, that the lawyer held a policy from the company in which it had warranted that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure them against fire, without defining what is considered to be an "unacceptable fire," and was
obligated to pay the claim.

Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000.00 to the lawyer for his loss of the rare cigars lost in the "fires."

NOW FOR THE BEST PART... After the lawyer cashed the
check, the insurance company had him arrested on 24 counts of
ARSON!!!! With his own insurance claim and testimony from the
previous case being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally burning his insured property and was sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000.00 fine.

Re: Crazy Lawyer/Cigar story

While this is a funny story, that is all it is. It is an urban legend. PDS pointed this out to me and I confirmed it throuth the web site below.

http://www.snopes.com/crime/clever/cigarson.asp

Still, I wouldn't put something like this happening and it is a funny story!

It was only a matter of time before that story made it back here, it comes around every year. It 's a good one though, even if i know it by heart .

That's funny, you used Michael Moore and Nutshell in the same reply. Somehow there's a redundancy in there somewhere.

If I'm not mistaken, George Bush created that cigar story while practicing for his WMD story. He really tells some good ones! Of course the cigar story hasn't cost as many lives, billions of taxpayer dollars, a huge deficit, antagonized the terrorists, or embroiled us in a mess that will take years to get out of. But, it's still a good one.

Re: Crazy Lawyer/Cigar story

I'm sorry, I missed the reference in my original reply that I must of made to George Bush and or an insult made against Elk Twin to incite an attack. I made a comment about my opinion regarding Michael Moore and I was called "Squirrel Turd" by Elktwin and then given a history lesson by Cigar Tom on the foreign policies of the Bush administration and it's cost to the U.S. in lost lives, wasted dollars and future deficits.
No offense, I can't tell you what to do but it seems to me that to get slammed for an opinion is a little harsh. My original contribution was one of humor and my subsequent reply was also an attempt at humor. I find a little humor can brighten up your day, a laugh never hurt anyone. If you are looking for political commentary or discussion, a joke thread is probably not the place to seek engagement.
Elktwin sorry for the 3 FU's but you pissed me off. As a recently naturalized American, it was my understanding that we are all free to voice our political without fear of attack.

Congratulations on being naturalized. Unfortunately you will find many people here who don't realize how fortunate they are to have been born here.

Most of us realized it was a joke. As far as free speech goes it only applies when you are speaking from the same political view as them apparently. Michael Moore is the savior of leftist wackos, and he is off limits to these folks apparently; as is the President(provided he is a Democrat).

CigarTom how about making one single post about cigars instead of politics bud? I am going to digress for a moment and share a picture that desribes Michael Moore best IMHO.

How about making one single post without all that political crap at the bottom? What's good for the goose is good for the gander. You and others post that right-wing crap at the bottom of every post and then criticize me for being political in a cigar forum? Seems like you can dish it out but you can't take it.
