I used to always be able to get the K. Hansotia gold 5-packs for $9. Damn fine cigars, too. Now they put a fancy Gurkha band on them, called them "Gurkha Gold," and they're selling for twice that! Good job for their marketing department, but bad for me... at least I stocked up a while ago.

It looks like they're doing the same thing with the Signature 101s, too (which is also a great cigar).

I know what you mean. I read about it in their last mail catalogue. I got in on the 101's right before that happened, got 10 for like 19 or 21 or something.

I have heard good stuff about K. Hansotias.

However, I'm still on the fence about Gurkhas. I have had two, one was really young had had a strong ammonia taste. The other was ok but didn't knock my socks off.

I do have a bunch chilling in the Humi..hopefully aging. will perfect them.

I wrote a post/review on the K.Hansotia Gold last year. They are excellent cigars, and worthy of praise. The interesting things is, K.Hansotia's products are supposedly limited edition smokes, and when they are gone, they are gone because of the rare tobaccos they use. Evidently there is a resurgence of the old tried and true blends and they are rejuvenating them. Hell, as long as they don't bring back the East India Ltd. I don't care. I too got a decent supply of them last year, and they have been resting ever since. I smoked one about 3 months ago, and it was exceptional.

Re: Hansotia Gold on cbid

I haven't had much luck at all lately with any of the Hansotia stuff. As was mentioned above the "essence of ammonia" is very noticable.

While adding the Legend band to the Hansotia stick may bring in a few extra dollars, it looks absolutely horrible. The two bands just don't mix.

Two bad branding decisions:

#1 - Choosing the design of the original Hansotia band.

#2 - Trying to improve the appearance and recognition factor of the original band by adding a beautiful band that doesn't match.

I'm a BIG Gurkha fan by the way.

Stupid marketing.....why can't they market a cigar like that for half the price rather than twice the price?

Wow - I've never had ammonia flavors from the Hansotia lines. I guess I've lucked out (or you've had luck with your sticks!)

The new bands are getting them noticed, whether they look good or not, so I guess it was a good move on their part. A different band probably would have cost money to design. This seems like it was a cheap fix kinda deal to just slap a Legends band on there.

Re: Hansotia Gold on cbid

I just won a fiver of these "Gurka Gold". It's funny how they put the Gurkha band on it to increase interest, but when they sent me the sticks they did not have the Gurkha labels. However, they were wrapped in cedar unlike the picture on their site.

I'm thinking about emailing them and asking if they will just send me the labels.
