This contest looks like fun. Congrats to whoever wins it. From the sounds of it, there are some premium smokes to be given out.

Re: Positive Cigar ID Contest

Had #1 last night. I don't care if I don't get a single guess right, finding this cigar was an automatic win in my book - easily the most I've enjoyed a smoke so far this year(granted, the weather has prevented me from smoking more than a dozen).

This churchill(?maybe not, didn't get out a ruler) was very solidly constructed. The wrapper was supple with minimal veins, and had a sturdy-looking cap. The stick smelled downright primal, with a mellow organic/barnyard odor. There was a little bit of something sweet in the smell, too. Prelight draw was perfect and carried some cinnamon with it. Accompanying drink was a ginger ale, which I find to pair well with mild-medium non-maduro cigars.

From the first draw to the last, every puff was different and enjoyable while never becoming too strong. The first inch or so was mostly what I think of as cream and leather, with that cinnamon making itself known as an undertaste too. This cigar smelled so good that I kept taking a couple of deep whiffs in between puffs. I wish they made perfume that smelled like this.

Once I hit the middle, the leatheriness started to give way to a smooth woodiness. The cream and sweetness picked up a little, but the cinnamon I was tasted initially started to subside. Strength was definitely increasing as well, although it was still right in my flavor range. During several puffs I picked up a definite caramel taste, which was a pleasant surprise. I started to think about bringing a notepad with me for the next cigar and making notes with each puff, then posting the entire thing as the "Taste" section of a review. I know I've forgotten some flavor details.

Burn was very good, with a maximum of maybe 1/4" of unevenness. The ash clung on for more than 2 inches, until I got paranoid about dropping it in my lap and respectfully tapped it off.

I loved this cigar and I hope the contest finishes soon so I can buy a box. I'll come up with a guess soon, for now I'm still afterglowing.

Re: Positive Cigar ID Contest

Nice Review! I think I said the same thigs after my first date!

I'm glad that I can add to your enjoyment. That's the real reason I ran the contest. I took a couple of sticks that I enjoyed and spread the word.

I hope you enjoy the other 3 at least half as much.

Re: Positive Cigar ID Contest

I may not be able to sample the others for a couple days. I'm feeling a little under the weather and don't know if a cigar will go over well.

There's only 1 left now! I messed up the order, smoking #4 before I saw the post about going in sequence. And as for #3...

Had it last night. This one was a fat, dark robusto with a slight box press. The tobacco looked so tightly packed at the foot that I was worried the draw would be too tight, but after making a careful cut it turned out looser than I'm used to - not overly so, but definitely notably loose. Tasted good on the prelight draw, and got to burning with ease in spite of the wind.

First few puffs were spicy but smoother than I expected, and this cigar wound up being (to my palate, at least) a medium-full smoke with a good amount of pepper and coffee flavors. I'd definitely like to have it again with a cup of coffee and a mug of root beer. It falls squarely in between #1 and #4 in terms of intensity. To be honest I don't think I did this cigar justice - I smoked it standing outside a bar, in below-freezing weather, and spent about 40 minutes on it.

I'm going to guess CAO Maduro.

Still owe ya a guess on #1 but I'm honestly just going to make a random stab in the dark based on reviews I've seen that seem to match the size and the flavor profile I perceived.

I'm sorry if I misled you - there is no special sequence for trying them - by all means try them in any order.

I just need the guesses to be listed in order, for example:

1. Phillies Honey Berry
2. Dutch Masters Cameroon Elite
3. Swisher Sweet Blunt Chocolate
4. White Owl Grape

I'm actually learning a little through the process - your reviews are "forcing" me to smoke these little beauties again, and now I'm paying attention a little longer - looking for the same hints and notes that you guys have noticed.

I can't wait until the reveal - so you guys can comment on that as well.

Re: Positive Cigar ID Contest

Enjoyed #2 yesterday. This one was a big maduro, about 6x56-58, and had an oily look. Prelight draw was unfortunately way too tight, but with a little extra cutting/poking managed to loosen up a bit. I noticed an acutely cone-shaped cherry during the smoke, maybe this is indicative of a very tightly wrapped middle?

For the first inch I got solid coffee and earth flavors, which turned a little sweeter and woodier farther into the smoke. Overall, flavor was fairly consistent throughout the entire cigar. Taste was medium-full but the cigar itself wasn't too strong. I really liked smoking this one with a cup of coffee and a mug of root beer(which is what I was thinking about doing with the other maduro in the blind taste test). This was definitely one of those cigars that is decent on its own but really shines when paired with drinks - I would drink a sip of coffee, puff, drink a sip of root beer, puff, then puff again once the drink tastes faded over a span of several minutes. It made it like smoking one sweet and chocolatey cigar and one woody/earthy one. I'm going to stick with the guess I made when I saw it - IT Super Fuerte. Here are my final guesses:

1. Ashton Heritage Puro Sol
2. Indian Tabac Super Fuerte
3. CAO Maduro
4. Partagas Short

Once again jesto68, thanks for making this happen. It was an awesome idea and the most fun I've had tasting new cigars in a long time.

P.S. What was #1? PM me so I can get more.
