Not meaning to be a smarty-pants, but lots of (very tasty) machine made Cuban cigars come wrapped in cellophane. As you say, though, no current production Cohibas that I'm aware of.

They are nasty looking. Try to take an opportunity to walk round a decent B&M, preferably a LCDH, just to get an idea of what the real thing looks like. I have a box of butt-ugly Jose L. Piedra Cazadores that look better than those Montefake-os.

Re: fakes?

Man, this is a busy forum!

I wasn't smart enough to spot the fake Cohibas, and I didn't even open the other boxes until we got home.

Should be OK, I mean it's not like you're shipping Cuban cigars into the US. Ouch.

Re: fakes?

Wow, those are really bad. Sorry about your loss. Overseas purchases can be risky. My friend bought me a single Cohiba at this resort in Coasta Rica. It was real, but the idiot paid $45 for it, even after I told him not to pay more than $15 for any cigar as a gift for me. I said thanx and enjoyed it with Balvenie(sp)
