Cigar Magazine

Hey Everyone!

I was wondering if there was anyone out there who has taken a look at Cigar Magazine. I was on their web site (www.cigar-magazine.com) and am really interested in subscribing and wanted to know if anyone has a review of it. If you order a 2-year sub you get a free pack of cigars.

Thanks

Re: Cigar Magazine

Hey HB,
I got a free copy the other day in the mail. Had some good articles. I found the article on the cigar Indians very interesting as I do own a few. But overall, not bad. If the cigars are to your liking then Yes I would say it's a good deal overall. IMHO

Re: Cigar Magazine

we had tons of them sent to work. I enjoy them much more the CA, but they are still a bit off base on some areas in my opinion. You can really tell that JR has their hands in this one ;-)

Re: Cigar Magazine

Got a copy a week or 2 ago. I havent had time to read much of it, just took a look at the Cigar Store Indian article and Steve Saka's article on the proper formula for cigar purchases/wife purchases

Re: Cigar Magazine

I have a copy also. Browsed through it once and have not picked it up since. I enjoy discussing cigars and learning from other BOTL on the boards, not someone who is in the cigar industry. Overall it's not a bad magazine, more cigar content than cA.

Re: Cigar Magazine

The "value" rating in that mag skews the whole deal for me. A cigar that tastes like a dog turd but has great "construction" and costs $2 will be the grand "value champion" of all time.

And if we are doing "statistical reviews verified by an accountant" why 1) leave the bands on so it ain't a blind review; and 2) why have "staff comments" and not testers comments. Could it be to be sure something good is written about every stick? Not a bad mag at all, but I will NEVER take any review seriously in that format.

Too bad they can't produce a publication aimed at the average guy.

There are a couple atricles that I did enjoy more than CA, but I still like CA's rating system better! Just their hands, I would say both hands and both feet!

Re: Cigar Magazine

I subscribed to it on JR Cigars website. I think it is really good mag. It does skew a bit on the reatings. but nothing is perfect.

Re: Cigar Magazine

I received a free copy, but have only had a chance to briefly go through it. The only strange thing I found was that about 15 pages in the middle of the magazine were upside down!

I subscribed to it and received the cigars (they were pretty good!). It only has that one magazine out, but I enjoyed it. Thought the articles were not as stuffy as CA and I learned some new information.

All in all, I am glad I subscribed so far!

Re: Cigar Magazine

I got the free issue like everyone else and i thought it was a decent mag. I know how some have been knocking their rating system because the low-priced cigars will always score the highest, but I think the rating system is the best thing about the mag. CA ratings only gives you one number, the CM gives you ratings in four different category and then an overall rating with the price of the cigar factored in. Whether you agree or disagree with the overall rating makes no difference to me, I don't even look at it. I look to the taste and construction/appearance ratings, as those are things that I look for in a cigar. This rating gives you the opportunity to judge a cigar on more than one platform, and is thus a much better scoring system in my view.

I don't know - I think it may have come from being on JR's mailing list or being signed up for their promotions or something like that.
