Sorry to hear about your sticks, man.

Here's another crazy thought. For the worst of the lot, that appear to be goners, you might just experiment with a few. Put a couple on a cake cooling rack or something similar and in the oven at the lowest temp. Take a couple of others and put them in the microwave a few seconds at a time. Probably a long shot, but you might just get lucky. If you think they're goners, anyway, nothing to lose.

Sorry to see that happen. Hope it works out for you.
I don't know if this will work or not, but what about putting the soaked ones into the freezer. This should dry them out plus reduce the damage from swelling due to the contraction from the freezing process. Then in a couple of days move them to the refridgerator for a couple of days and then into a dry box for a day. I don't know if this will work, but in theory, it seems correct.

You could try it with some of the worse ones, at least that way, you didn't lose anything.

Most of my NC's were affected - around 150 sticks- About 70% of these smokes were ultra premium - +$8 - There were a handful of sticks that weren't touched.

About 30% of my Habanos were affected and most of them were pretty bad.

The only way I'll really know the extent of the damage is by smoking some. I should probably let them sit for a few weeks at least.

It makes me sick each time I think of what I did. Dumb Dumb -

As for that perfect burn, it is probably lost due to the water damage. Check for mold periodically as you may get some due to the water damage.

I would dry them out and smoke them as quickly as you can.
I agree with him. Sorry 2hear that hope they recover.

Man Kevin that really sucks.

I happened to get an e-mail today from cheaphumidors.com, pertaining to this issue. I don't know anything about it, but this is what they said:

Quote:
Every once in a while you find that you let your cigar get a little too moist. Maybe you neglected your humidor for a while, or perhaps you just dropped it in the pool while trying to save that damsel in distress.

Unless it was a great smoke, I say throw it away and try again, but there are some things you can do to bring the life back to that soggy stogie.

Some people will take their wet cigars and put them in a new humidor to allow them to release the humidity back into the humidor. This will work, but if you don't have a new humidor you can try getting some old cigar boxes from your local cigar store.
They are usually free and are loaded with Spanish cedar, which is perfect for the occasion.

After being in this environment for a few days, you should have removed most of the excess moisture and can place the cigar in your humidor. You might need more or less time depending on the amount of moisture you are trying to remove.

Another quick tip is to place the cigars in a zip-top bag and place a small desiccant bag, commonly found packaged with electronics.
These bags contain silica gel and remove humidity. One of these in a bag with the cigars will surely remove the humidity. But be careful, you can remove too much, so be sure to monitor it with a hygrometer.
Again, I have no first hand experience, just quoting another source.

Good Luck.

Good Luck.

Thanks Joel, I have most damaged sticks in some old boxes just like the arcticle says. The ten Padilla 8/11's that were totally soggy have been sitting on my kitchen table out in the open for about two whole days and they are still soggy. The humidity in the house is around 10% and 80 degrees.

The refridge that did all the damage is all defrosted and I have all my cigars back in there. It works like a charm - 60 degrees and 60-63%. I keep checking it every 2 hours to make sure no condensation is forming. This way nothing should mold.

Thanks for you concern -

I think its time for a RyJ Cazadore to kick my azz.

Sorry. Couldn't help it.
Actually, I should get on their mailing list too. It's a good place.

Oh, and if you dropped one in a pool, there would be a lot of people running for their towels.

Tough crowd. Is this thing on?

So, how did things work out? Were you able to save most of them? What methods worked best?

Ditto.
Curious.
You should have been able to salvage them as long as you made sure they weren't confined to where mold could grow due to so much moisture.
If done right, you should have ended up with wrinkled sticks that still tasted great.
